I made a flat aluminum roof out of 6061 aluminum. It was very durable and worked great. The problem was when a branch caught the visor or hit the top it would ring your ears. It was pretty loud.

I now have a top made of 1/2" HDPE. I made it a little extra wide and it works great as a rub rail on the top of the roll cage. Its quieter and absorbs the impact of branches much better. Both options are heavy enough to stand on, and another bonus is you can screw a dome light to the roof and not have to worry about fasteners on top or making holes through the roof as I did with aluminum. I really like it and would recommend the HDPE route.

Thanks for feedback do you have any pictures by chance I I think the heat was my biggest concern with aluminum getting to hot during riding

One of my favorite upgrades was adding a Alien Sunshade off Amazon. It also lets you put the OEM on when you need it (Rain)

I like the idea of the aluminum one but it will reflect more motor and transmission noice then the OEM and that way more than the Mesh style.

I have the OEM and it is very durable. I use it to pivot around trees and have rubbed some rocks as well with minimal marks. My only complaint is that the front center holds water and dumps it down the windshield when you move. Minor problem.

I totally agree with you on the factory option. Love the way trees slide without damage.
On water issue I did chop more on front cage to eliminate this but you could probably lower the front mounts and slightly raise the center to correct that issue
