Sense this trip follows in some proximity the route that Lewis and Clark took, I'm interested in the precise spot we'll cross the CD. when they arrived at the three forks, Lewis and Clark had to decide which one was the principle stream. Lewis named them the Gallatin (after the US treasurer) the Madison (after the Secretary of State) and the Jefferson (after the president). After exploring the three for a few days it was determined that the Jefferson was the principle stream and thus the beginning of the Missouri. This is where Sacagawea was so instrumental in guiding them to the Shoshone Indians where they would need to procure horses to cross the divide. At the headwaters Lewis was very delighted that after following the Missouri for its entire length, he could stand with one foot on either side of it. From there they ascended the Bitteroots and made passage at Lemhi. Just wondering how close we'll be to that??

I'll look it up this afternoon and tell you more specific.

Tows perfect. About an inch narrower on each side than the car. I can still make a u turn in he middle of the street. Don't think I'm going to cut anything off it.

Of everyone on the trip I'm sure you're the most comfortable pulling a long trailer anyway. That's good how it worked out, I'm certain you'll use the extra space.

I'm glad the route goes through the Black Hills, probably the prettiest part of SD. One of the largest Wooly Mamoth discoveries in North America is at the southern edge of the Black Hills too, then there's Sturgis and of course in the vicinity is Crazy Horse monument which dwarfs Mt. Rushmore also nearby, and just across the border into Wyoming is the famed Devils tower. Then we get to contend with the Big Horns, Wind River Range and Grand Teton! I also noticed that we'll be passing just below the historic Teddy Roosevelt Ranch at Elkhorn.

In Wyoming we cross the Belle Fourche, little Missouri, powder, tongue, Shoshone and Yellowstone rivers, just to name a few. All part of the Missouri River watershed. Wonder if we'll run any of them???!!!

Jackson Hole Wyoming, near the south entrance to Yellowstone!!! The snake gets it's start near the south end of Yellowstone and flows south to Jackson Hole where it makes a sharp right turn and races across Idaho to the Columbia as its chief tributary. The CD crossing is going to be one spectacular event on this historic expedition.

Of course our crossing will likely be much further down the Big Horn River valley than where this photo was shot. Kind of weird that these waters end up passing throu New Orleans dumping into the Gulf of Mexico!
