Yes, he said that he supported redirecting (some) funds. “Defunding” the police gives the impression of taking all funds away, and is something no president has the ability or authority to do. For example, in the same interview that some media outlets have mischaracterized, he said that local police departments should not be militarized, that they do not need up armored vehicles. That is the kind of federal funding that he would support redirecting...

Again, you’re being obtuse, as you know well that police departments are not federally funded, but locally funded. Some departments receive some federal monies, but it’s a matter of common sense that those funds would be predicated upon constitutional responsibility.
