If you're driving through Yellowstone and don't wanna pay the park entrance fee, Hit the gates after 5 pm and it's free to enter the park. If you're looking for camping just north of Yellowstone, in Gallatin NF is the Tom Miner CG with a bold stream, high concentrations of grizzly and moose plus a 2 mike hike up from the CG is the remains of a petrified forest. Tom Miner CG is 14 miles off the Pavement though, but through some incredibly beautiful country.

I have camped all around the outside of the park and have other recommendations depending on the direction you plan on coming or going.

If you're driving through Yellowstone, Expect to add 3-4 hours due to traffic jams and general idiotry

Yea I've been pondering on that. Not sure I want to do it with a trailer. I know I'd rather come into montana from the south though and not the east.

If you wanna get off the interstate I-90 for more scenery, take Hwy 14 ( Medicine Wheel Passage) off of I-90 near Ranchester just north of Sheridan is very scenic and has a number of NF CG's along the route. When you reach Burgess Junction in the Bighorn Mountains take ALT 14 to Bighorn Canyon national recreation area for more camping opportunities. On Hwy 212 is the breathtaking Beartooth Pass between Sheridan and Yellowstone and north of Cody but, it rises in elevation and there are some switchbacks. The North east entrance to jelleystone at Tower Junction isn't typically as busy as the southern entrance from Grand Teton or any of the others.

I've driven from sheridan to Greybull, then Cody, then yellowstone. I'm thinking about coming in from the southeast up to casper then probably cut up to Cody and not sure from there. On the way there I don't really have a lot of time for stops at Yellowstone and such. I may just make it most direct to West Glacier then take my time on the way home.

That’s a better idea

You can drive your pioneer on all paved roads within the park and non paved up by Polebridge to lakes Bowman and Kintla.
east glacier

I haven't been able to find anything that confirms this. BLM land is rideable but nothing says I can ride in the national park.
