Welcome!

Snatch/stretchy straps are just a bad idea, they break both parts and people. If a tow/recovery strap will not dislodge a stuck vehicle, we winch. Red Art Speed Speed Straps are my favorite tow/recovery strap... they can quickly be adjusted to any required length.

We love stretchy ropes. Seems like it puts less stress on everything including your neck. Allows the other rigs to get a running start instead of taking the slack and then just digging down.

We see waaaaay better results with stretchy over rigid.

Guess its all just personal opinion.

But who wants to pass an opportunity to say they had to yank out their buddy?

Yes, they work very well, and that is because the forces they create are immense... Many times greater over a straight winch pull. So the likelihood of failure goes up, and when it does happen, the power behind it is far more destructive. Just be careful!

Nothing ever goes wrong in the woods anyways

I've had good luck with the Warn snatch block! Never have used kinetic but have a variety of ropes and straps that I always carry! Still running stock bumper so have to get creative if I don't want to use the winch to get out!

That Warn Epic snatch block looks really nice. $40 cheaper than the ARB as well!

Had a great day working on the machine today. I got the trail armour skid plate and a-arm guards installed today. My friend was kind enough to use his mini excavator to roll he machine up on it's side in his shop. I pre-drilled pilot holes for everything on the bottom and used Loctite. I noticed the frame was super solid but the tubing on the outside edges seem thin in comparison. When I rechecked all of the screws afterwards I realized I had stripped a couple of them in the thin metal tubing. It's off to the hardware store tomorrow to buy the next size up stainless sheet metal screws. The a-arm guards went on without issue and I'm really pleased with the coverage the whole package offers. One thing to note, one of the wheel studs had partially stripped threads. This was the first time the wheel had been taken off since brand new. I cleaned up the nut and stud with a tap and die and some oil.

Here's some pictures of the fun today in the shop.......

Another option for the stripped screws would be to drill out the holes for a 6mm nutsert and use bolts. Below are the links for the parts I used to bolt up my skid plate.

Hey Guys,

Well, the bumper was an epic install - it took 3 of us beating on it with a sledge hammer - bent the lower mounts out a bit but since it was securely welded on both sides, it still wouldn't go onto the frame all the way (TC just built it too tight) So I took the 5" angle grinder and ground about 1/16th of an inch off the inside of both brackets and Voila! - it slipped into position with a little more persuasion from the sledge hammer! I spray painted the bare metal and used thread lock on all the bolts. The TC kit was also missing the 4 "spacers" that went inside the hollow frame to avoid crushing it when the 4 bolts were tightened up (the Honda bumper had the spacers welded inside the bumper mount. Anyway, I was able to make two out of a piece of heavy aluminum square tubing and two more out of some 1" round heavy gage pipe. All painted to prevent rust. As you can see, the bumper is an absolute thing of beauty!!!!

One other problem, the Honda winch bracket is of no use to mount the fairlead plate. I will order that KFI one for $29, or I could have the local machine shop bend up a plate...... If it went under the 4 winch mount bolts and was bent 90 deg and made strong, it would do the trick! Anyway, very pleased with the results so far!

So......I decided to build a wooden cargo box out of 3/4" ply to fit in behind the rear seats when they are raised. I wanted something with a hinged top that would keep the water and trail mud off. I'll be using it for synthetic rope winch extensions, shackles, snatch blocks, shovel, axe, splitting maul, etc. I'll paint it all up gloss black once it's done. I'm planning on using a full length piano hinge as well. I'm really enjoying the build so far!

Couple of shots with the Factor 55 recovery receiver and Crosby shackle. With one snatch block I should be able to winch the damn thing straight up a tree...............completely eliminating the need to take the food out of the Pioneer for bears :)

I like like like it!! Get a wireless remote if you're going to winch the pioneer up the tree... going to be hard riding with splinters in you're ass after crawling up and down to raise and lower it!

That's some funny sh$t there JTW :) I didn't know they made wireless remotes for the smaller winches. Something more to checkout for sure. I can't keep up with this damn forum and all the mods guys have done to their machines. The last couple of feet of snow should be gone in another two weeks or so. Can't wait to get this thing muddy like it should be!

The rear cargo box is coming together slowly. I used my router and cut out spaces to access the latch mechanism for the rear seats. There's also a second notch cut in for the tailgate cables to neatly fold in out of the way. Top Piano hinge is on as are the foot spacers on the bottom. I've got an axe, shovel, straps and shackles in there with lots of room to go for a few snatch blocks, Pull-Pal and some saw pre-mix fuel. I'll paint it black this weekend and that about do it.
