Skids reattached, all good.

What a boring thread.

Thanx

Seriously, a big 'thank you' to @lee for the plus nut / x nut idea. Seems more secure than the rivnuts. I only heard one of them snap from overtightening.
I found the 'boring' thread interesting, as I suspect I'm going to run into something like this one day, probably soon, and like you, it will be a learning experience, full of anger and frustration! I definitely need to up my tool game...

A nearby substitute anchor is indeed the plan for that spot. but with a +nut or two.

I just need a plan for the spot with bad threads. I need to use that spot. I don't know if I can re-thread it or not.
Do I have to go bigger; from M6 to M8? Or should I try to rethread with M6? Or try to ream it out with 3/8"?
I'd try and m6 tap first you might get lucky and just need to clean up the threads.
Edited to say: nevermind

Can you use a rivnut tool to install a plus nut.

Although I'm not certain, I don't think so. The +nut is longer than a rivnut, needs more pressure to set it and a longer mandrel.

The video provided in post #26 explains it well.

Worked on the skid install on the white P500.

If anyone goes with the SSS skid, there are 17 points where it attaches at factory threaded spots, and 14 points where rivnuts/+nuts/self-tappers are needed ( 8 of these are at the outer edges where they attach at the side tube framing ).
