New to the forum and bought a pioneer 1000-5 about a month ago. I am liking the slasher front bumper and if and when I buy one, I will be putting a winch on it. That said, do i need to buy the winch mount kit from honda or is there an aftermarket kit where I can just get the harnesses. All the people that have installed the slasher with winch, chime in. I'm curious....

Hi. Welcome.
All, (well, 98% of all) winches come with a the cables you need to install the winch.

With the slasher, the winch will mount directly so you do not need a separate mount. If you get wide spool winch you may need to drill holes as last I checked it only had them for standard spool. Not a big deal.

They do offer the standard spool fairlead mount but i recomend using the mount that comes with the winch.

The only thing outside the kit you will need is a Key-On power source. You can tap a wire or buy a plug-n-play kit like this one --> KEY ON POWER Harness for Honda Pioneer 1000, 700, 500, and Talon 1000.

Several of us have the slasher and enjoy it.

I have the slasher bumper and I'm satisfied for what it is. I had to buy $35 winch mount for it from amazon to bolt my fairlead to. I know they changed the design and I'm pretty sure there was 2 separate sets of holes for the winch. I'm assuming the other set was for a wide spool winch. Ive only had it on for a couple of months. I'm gonna get the tough country for my 3 seater just for s***s and giggles.

Can you post the fairlead mount link?

Also, did your winch not have a fairlead mount? If it did, most do, Why did you change?

How much heavier is the Slasher over the stock bumper?

I'm just estimating it weighed about 65lbs and the stock bumper feels like about 20-25lbs. It's not as heavy duty as I thhit would be. Maybe the older design is. I've not winched with it yet so time will tell. This review has me worried because that's kinda what i thought would happen when i took it out of the box.

That's another reason I'm going tough country for my 3 seater when I have the money. It look way more heavy duty than the slasher. It was gonna cost about $250 more but I believe there is $250 more bumper there. As long as it doesn't junk out when I start winching I will be plenty satisfied with it.
