(-) means it can't determine what gear it is in. Have you hooked up any accessories?
If so what and to what wire?
Did you hook to the reverse wire?
It could be in limp mode. Look in your owners manual around page 225.
But.
In the past it has been just a loose plug/wire. Check the gear position switch wires.
sorry i'm not at home to find a image for location for the wires.
But check all the connections under the driver seat and any others you can find.
Thanks.
Found what I was looking for here.
P1000 - Stuck in 1st gear Post #10.
Its also in your owners manual for easier reading too. page 223, roundabout.
As for checking for a loose plug. There are about 2 dozen that can cause a (-) according to the service manual.
I would just check everything you can find. starting under the drivers seat.
Keep us updated.
Thanks.
Hope that helps. Its hard to identify this kind of error.
its a lost connection error somewhere. Either a plug or bad sensor/part
I would manually change the gears and see what you get.
I might even disconnect the battery and see what happens.
See the black - below each item's description. Each item, if it has a fault, can cause a (-) to show.
Ya. not much help really.
Thank you very much.
Ill need to clean the bike up and go through everything once I have a chance, hopefully get decent weather soon.

Glad you got issue fixed 👍I had same problem with my Pioneer 1000-5. (-) blinking and stuck in first gear. Checked all grounds to engine, checked all plugs around ECU, had just changed plugs 4 months ago, and unplugged all accessories without fix. Changed the neutral position sensor and it's back to normal. What gets you as it would run normal 50% and then limp mode others so it make you think it's electrical.
