Yesterday 1st time oil change and I noticed there was no spring for oil filter . There was one for the transmission so im ok there . 2 questions ....

Can you run it without ?
Part number of the spring .

Yes, there's supposed to be a spring and if you run it without the spring, oil is bypassing the filter.

You need to get one and put it in.

You shouldn't lose much oil putting it in. You can tilt it on its side and won't lose a drop.

Oh that’s a great idea! I need to try that on my next oil change. Now if only my memory can hold up when that time comes.

Look closly your spring is there.Pulled mine yesterday no spring i pack rags in under filters so oil does not run on the skid plate.There it was laying on the rags.No rags its laying on skid plate.

Good point, the spring isn't held in place by anything and, since it's horizontal, can fall out as soon as you pull the cover.

I lost mine once.

Made a run up to the local hardware store and found a perfectly suitable replacement before putting it back together.

I did order an oem one for the next oil change, but they're practically the same.
