My eyes aren't young and I need larger than my phone for navigation. I want about a 10" screen and I want the tablet vertical showing more of what's ahead instead of what's off to my sides. I want an android that will only be used for SXS navigation. I want to use my RAM mounts which are currently anchored above the glove compartment. And then have the screen near the factory display. Turning a holder vertical presents problems. The clamps won't give support preventing it from slipping out the bottom. I could make something preventing that if I can't find what I need.

I have other things preventing mounting overhead. I'd like suggestions on best tablet, holder, and other locations that might help. I plan to ride the Arizona Peace Trail in March and would like a betterer setup before starting.

I use this mount and it works with Ram Mounts or has hardware to mount on grab handle. I choose to mount mine overhead though to avoid glare on the screen.

Samsung Tab A is mentioned frequently and is reported to have a better GPS chip than my iPad, which has worked fine for me. Make sure it has a GPS chip, I don't think wifi only units do.

IPad dimensions - overall, including the case - 12" x 10"
Screen size - 8-7/8" x 9-1/4"

I use a RAM Tab Tite HD, one end is spring loaded to allow size variations.

A u-bolt secures it to the sissy bar.

That looks like what I want. Is the ball mount centered on the holder or adjustable? And can it be used with a 10" tablet in the vertical position? Mine isn't centered and requires frequent readjusting when hitting bumps.

Mine moves (it drops down to the sissy bar) with the ~1" balls. The second photo shows that I run it with the ball connector at an angle, the straighter up you can run it, the less lever arm working on the clamp's grip (plus gravity). It's my understanding that the larger 1-1/2"(?) balls would stop that.

The mount is centered in the holder. The first photo shows the mount in the vertical position, so yes.

Big balls are better. And straighter up with a shorter extension would maybe help. But what you have probably works fine. And then there are always new uses for Gorilla Tape.
