I am planning on buying a 2017 Pioneer 500, but have been reading of engine output shaft seal leaks. The 2015, 2016 units didn't seem to have any problems, so maybe I'll get a 2016. What do you think? Are the 2017 engine seals really an issue, or is it the usual story of a few people with some issues getting a lot of press. You're thoughts are appreciated!

I do know they will fix a dripping seal. A “misting” seal which is just wet but not dripping the dealer sais is normal. There are simple ways to make it drip. So I wouldn’t worry about it, buy the one you want.

I purchased a new 17 a month ago the dealer still had a new ‘16 sitting there so if you look around maybe you can find a new ‘16 if you want it

Like anything, if buying used get a feel for how it was maintained and run. Big investment either way, so dont let a small percentage of the overall price difference lead you to something you might have regrets later. With a new unit, either year, ati least you get a 1 year warranty. Wonder if @Hondasxs can give us the number of P500 members? No problems with 2017 so far after 1 yr.

Honestly, if a weeping seal is a big deal, this might not be the hobby for you. Seriously, most other buggies can cost serious money with every major trip out with broken belts or axles and exploding diffs. Of all the utv's in the marketplace I would feel the most comfortable buying a used P5 over pretty much anything else, its a decades old engine / trans in the thing.. Even if a seal is bad it's a simple DIY fix.

Brought one of the first ones from the dealer. No leaks no problems never been back to the dealer.I don't beat on it. It's much more a tool than a toy.

The only reason to get a new one is if you want the automatic mode. Other than that... Plus the really new ones have the weird reshaped bar on each side (i think its supposed to hold you in the cab). Looks like a PITA tho
