I've noticed, don't know if it's my imagination, but it feels like it's slipping when shifting into 3rd. I have 35in tires. Was on when I bought it.

Wondering if anyone else is having the same issue. It goes into low fine and shifts into 2nd fine. Usually starts when at operating temperature.

Should be slipping at takeoff as well then since 3rd gear is engaging onto the same clutch that's used to leave from a stop.

The easiest way I've found is to watch rpms while manually shifting, I usually hold till around 4k and then shift. A normal shift (on a Pioneer) is 1 or 2 bar jump on the tach. I dont have enough data on a Talon to suggest a "normal" condition. But if you watch when shifting into any of the even gears you should be able to discern if the jump in rpms is marginally different than a odd number gear shift.

The Talon does seem to engage harder and more abruptly then the Pioneer (atleast new anyway) so maybe from a stop it's not as noticeable.

On motorcycle transmissions, slipping first shows up in higher gears, I suspect the same is true on SxSs. So … how does 5th feel? and 6th (different clutch). How many miles? Lots of tight, low speed rock crawling? (resulting in more clutch slippage to allow for the tall tires)

Like @HondaTech said above. You should be experiencing the same thing in 1, 3, 5th & R gears as they all run off the starter clutch pack, the 2nd clutch handles 2, 4, 6th gears.

My mistake, guess he has a Talon. So mechanically it's still similar, just no update for it.

Has nice tight shifts when first starting. When it gets to normal operating temperature 3rd will slip as well as 4th. Its shifts the rpms climb then drops.

When I ride trails it stays in low and doesn't do a whole lot of shifting through gears.

So today I decided to watch the rpms. Drove it from my parents to my house. Once it was to operating temp, I watched the tach when it shifted. I gave it between quarter and half throttle and average speed was around 35-45. All in high. (Back roads all paved)

When shifting from 2nd to third the rpms would jump a out 1k rpms and come down once fully engaged. 4th to 5th not as many maybe 500 to 700 rpms.

The slipping is just like an automatic car transmission slip. The rpms kick up then once the transmission catches up the rpms come down.

With everything going on just want to see if this is normal or make an appointment to take it in to dealership, which is over an hour away and would have to take off work.

Thanks

Your transmission isn't slipping (it can't, it is gear to gear), you are feeling the clutches switch from one to the other when shifting. Mine does it once in a while under light throttle pressure in AT Normal. It is almost imperceptible but since you posted here I paid more attention and noticed it.

Under heavy acceleration, in AT Sport or MT mode, I cannot detect it. This is probably because the DCT runs at higher oil pressures.

Is this normal, not sure but there has to be some time between shifts or the transmission would be in 2 gears at the same time and bind.

How many miles on the machine.
Have you serviced the machine?
How many miles on the oil?
When serviced, did you change both the Oil and DCT filters?
Are you using the correct type of Motorcycle oil?

It has 260 miles.
I did the first service and used Honda gn4 and I changed the motor and dct filters.

I liked I stated. I just noticed it one day. Maybe excitment of newness wore off. It does have 35s on it. Waiting for satv portals for the r. But still not available yet

I did not notice you had 35's. With that size of tire, all bets are off and the DCT will most likely not shift at the correct time. Any slippage (intentional or not) will be exasperated with 35's.

With portals, the shift points may be even worse. You will need 3 VS Sensor Correctors (2 for the DCT and another for the Speedo) to get the shift points back to (somewhat) normal. The DynoJet DCT Tune has been reported to work well. It stiffens up the shifts and corrects some of the shift point. Not sure how well it will work with portals (with or without the VSS correctors) so you may want to do some research on that too.
