P1000 Viper Winch Wiring Question

Bought a previous generation Viper winch from the company store here and just got around to installing the wiring harnesses that came with it. It has a short black wire that comes out of the plug that connects to the wireless control module. The instructions don't show or mention it. What's it for?

Actually, it comes out of the plug that plugs into the control box.
