Hello guys,

I just purchased a 2017 500 and immediately noticed that 1st and reverse are much taller than on my 2015 and I understand a couple of gears were changed. My question is, does anyone know if 5th is also taller to give a more relaxed engine rpm at road speed. The seat dyno doesn't feel much difference. Thank you for any insight on this.

Slightly taller.....for 5th gear the 16 & under run a 33 tooth gear on the mainshaft, the 17 & up run a 32 tooth gear. All P5's run a 28 tooth gear on the countershaft. 1.17 to 1 vs 1.14 to 1

The other difference is the gearing on the final shaft, 16 & under is 1.875 to 1 vs 17 & up which are 1.818 to 1. Again a very slight difference but an overall taller ratio on the 17 & up models.

....and Welcome to the club! Stick around a while and we'll help shrink you bank account with new mod ideas 🤣

Hey thanks for that good info. Those accessories do add up I notice, and the dealers are proud of them. At the same RPM, would there be maybe one or two mph difference at the 40 mph cutoff?

Yup, that's certainly possible. The so called speed limiter isn't really true, then ECM reads the rpm/gear selection and cuts out based on RPM only while in 5th gear. If you want a good read on it check out this link P5 gear mod and when your ready to try it PM me for the washer needed for correct sensor spacing. Cheers!

Welcome to the club from Canton, OH
Red is the fastest color....unless you cheat and change gears like 906UP did. 🤣
