I’m not sure if the broadhead caused the issue or not. I was reading and watching some archery shows yesterday and they did unequivocally do not use broadheads from your compound bow on your crossbow. I was using my compound broadheads so maybe they caused something weird. The guy on tv said the flight pattern and the opening mechanism might not work. Bought new broadheads for a crossbow already.

Yes, they are definitely 2 different applications. The broadhead for your crossbow will typically be 2x the weight of your bow's broadhead. Once you get crossbow specific broadheads it should be a tack driver then. ;)

@ToddH is correct. Another thing I might add most may not agree with me, your using a mechanical broadhead. Myself, I don’t like them. I like to use fixed broadheads cuz of there more true to flight and less prone to do weird things like you stated. I’ve had this happen to me with a mechanical on a shot I took at a deer some years ago and was very upset. My buddy always stood by them and one day had the same issue shooting at a deer and didn’t recover it. He went back to a nice fixed broadhead. The one I posted was with one. My confidence levels went up after going back one less thing to worry about for me. Just food for thought when your starting out.

I use shwackers now. But in the past I used Rages. I went to shwackers for the simple fact I don't like how the rages cutting edge is exposed. They both had and excellent flight pattern. The shwackers are a bit more affordable. And @nbomar ToddH is absolutely correct. You need Xbow tips with a xbow.

I was itching to stick something so I decided to shoot a doe Thursday evening. 18 yard shot with a G5 Montec broadhead. I hit a little high on the entrance side but got both lungs. She literally took 2 jumps then stopped and did the death wobble. Died 10 yards from the arrow in the ground. Shortest track I've ever had so needless to say I'm super impressed with the broadheads. I was also excited to put the Pioneer to work getting her home. My brother in law showed up with 2 friends to help me drag it out. So the ride out of the trail was 3 grown men in front seat, 1 in the back seat, and a big doe on the bed side seat left down. The Pioneer never skipped a beat! Everyone was impressed. Now it's time to find some good antlers!

I’ve got a mission compound. Great bow and it doesn’t break the bank.

I don’t know about the break the bank part. This one was almost $1900 after taxes and all. I got employee discount from a buddy who is a vet and also tax exempt so I paid $1208 but that’s the most expensive bow I’ve ever bought. It is crazy smooth and accurate though. Passed on a few bucks this weekend. Just too young. Trying again this week and next weekend

Wow. Mine was a mission 3, I believe an older simpler model. I think it cost me under $400. That was years ago too.

I’ve never shot a deer with my bow. This is year 4. This is the first year I’ve had one come into range. Missed the first little doe a couple weeks ago. Got it done last night. Man I had the jitters. Glad to get a deer down before a nice buck walked in and I botched it. Now on to bigger better deer. 38 yards. First kill!

Nice shot! I lost a doe a week and a half ago. Hit her right below the spine. She bled a bit for about 100 yds or more until she got to a hay field. Then the drops dwindled down to nothing. Got her on video running past one of my cams. You could clearly see the shot. I'm confident she's back with her group to this day. It was my 1st shot with my Centerpoint Specialist crossbow. My 3 excuses are this...

Down to the last minute lighting

I aimed too high

She ducked/dropped

Been too busy dealing with Dads estate to get back on the horse but hopefully next week.

So Illinois allows the use of cross bows, here in Arkansas they are legal also, some States you have to be handicapped to use them.

Yep that's how it was here until the end of last summer when the governor passed it through for everyone. It was awesome and a surprise since he has a liberal wife and acted like a Democrat on some issues.
