So Illinois allows the use of cross bows, here in Arkansas they are legal also, some States you have to be handicapped to use them.
That's the way it used to be in tn and that's what i used t o love bout bow season cause u very rarely saw anyone else in the woods. Kinda wished they would make a traditional archery only season for a couple weeks. Nothing against crossbows but i got tired of watching the old man on the neighboring farm walk the property line like elmer fud after he got his crossbow lol

Yes I agree with what you stated. Our state was for only disabilities till about 7-8 years ago with crossbows. It’s turned out to be better for me and letting me back to my normal bow hunting regimen like I had done for many years Pryor. Work hrs not giving me the time to practice or participate in the 3D shoots I use to do made me not so confident to go to the woods with little or no practice time with my compound. Since having crossbows legal for everyone here made that much easier for me.

Do the cables hold up better than a compound? I use Winners strings, they last a year, if you shoot a lot.

Yes, at least from what I’ve noticed they do. I still have my compounds and there like yours need replacement more offten. I do wax my crossbow strings as often as i did/do my compounds.

@Smitty335 I just thought, if u shoot a lot with your compound like I did and probably yourself, you’ll go through more strings. The crossbow, I only shoot it about a dozen shots before season and that’s it just to be sure I didn’t bump the scope. They stay so right on target you do t have to shoot as much so yes the strings would definitely last longer.

I’ve never shot a deer with my bow. This is year 4. This is the first year I’ve had one come into range. Missed the first little doe a couple weeks ago. Got it done last night. Man I had the jitters. Glad to get a deer down before a nice buck walked in and I botched it. Now on to bigger better deer. 38 yards. First kill!

Shot your deer and he’s driving your Honda?!?

No, I drove. I helped him get it out of the swamp. He helps with things around the camp a lot. We’ve hunted every gun season together since we were 13. He’s a county sheriff and a hell of a shot.

If anyone ever wants to trade hunts let me know. I'll give you an Iowa whitetail hunt for an elk or mule deer hunt.

Finally filled my doe tag. 1st deer on our "new" place. I haven't hunted them for years and with my new pain meds I decided I'd go out and use the existing run down tower blind that was here when we moved in.

I was pretty much done for the night. 2 minutes of legal time left and I was sure she was going to walk behind a burr patch. Well, she didn't. She walked right in front of me within 25 yds and I blasted her with a Swhacker out of my Centerpoint Specialist crossbow. My propane heater froze up 15 minutes into the wait and I wasn't dressed warm enough to sit there any longer so I climbed down and began the search.

After the shot she ran right through that burr patch so I started tracking blood behind it. It was a fine mist on white snow. I thought damn, here we go again since I had already lost one doe that I hit high but below the spine. So, I kept going and the blood mist stayed steady through a sort of low area or slough in our woods. Just as soon as I got through that and the woods started again, I saw her, she was done. She only went 50 yds or so.

You can clearly see the exit wound where the Swhacker brought some lung out with it. That explains the mist and lack of a good blood trail. It's the same Swhacker that I hit the other deer with so I'm guessing it was a little dull and that's probably why it pulled some lungs out with it. I'll sharpen or replace that one.

We're finally done dealing with Dad's estate so I'll have more time to sit out and try to fill my other tag.
