Hello everybody, I’m on here every day might as well join y’all. I recently purchased a 2018 Pioneer 1000-5. Everything works perfect except this rattle at the top of the motor that’s driving me nuts and I truly can’t figure it out. Good compression, valves adjusted, changed the cam chain tensioner like everybody has said and was hoping that was it but nothing. Oil has 0 shaving, only thing left to do really is adjust the clutches but I don’t think that could possibly be it. Any help is appreciated. It’s loud and obnoxious and I’m over it already. Can’t stand driving it at this point.

Can you take a video of the sound and post it here. Have to put it on YouTube and share the link here. It will help out to hear it. Welcome and good luck!

Welcome to the club D-max. Holly shît dude I thought I was the furthest south guy on here, you got me by a few hrs 😂

Like @WagginTail mentioned, it'd help if we heard the sound. Upload a video to YouTube then copy link here. I'm sure you'll get some answers/suggestions.

Let me know if you want a second buggy to tag along when you go to Corbett. I live 4 blocks from the entrance off Seminole Pratt

Any indication that engine has ever ingest water?

That noise sounds like one I worked on a few years ago that had a bent rod from swallowing water. The piston was hitting the crank web due to the rod being shortened.

No signs of water intrusion, intake tubing is all clean, filter looks dry even though ofcourse it could’ve just been replaced and intake screen has no rust. Previous owner stated he never put water past the floorboards, again don’t know the guy so who knows. He did want to come work on my boat which is a good sign because I wouldn’t want to show up to your house after selling you a blown bike. Just my 2 cents lol

Has it been sounding like that since you bought it or is it a new thing?

Have you checked the lifters? You said it's got good compression, have you checked oil pressure? And lastly the most popular question in the world..........what kinda oil you running?

That video sure sounds like lower end to me, or maybe wrist pin knock.

I'd be interested in pulling the oil pan and checking the rod bearings, then pulling the head and looking at piston movement in the bore.

Me thinks it's not so good of a deal! I have a foreman 450 that sounds very similar and it has bad lower rod bearings during to getting ran low on oil. I know those engines are not apples to apples same, but bad rod bearings usually all sound the same. You can use a mechanics stethoscope or a long handled screw driver and your ear to try to isolate the location in the engine. Or like @Hello_Darkness said, drop the pan and you'll find out for sure.

Oil pressures good. Haven’t even changed oil yet, literally just got it about maybe a month ago. I have no idea what oil he used but for my peace of mind was going to do full maintenance with oem kit and see what it does. Lifters are good and lash is within spec. I honestly was leaning towards a rod bearing after checking everything but I was trying to check the easy stuff first before I did a full tear down. Going to detach trans off motor today to isolate and pull the pan, before I do I’ll say a prayer lol.

You don't need to remove the sub trans to take the oil pan off.

Nothing inside the sub trans is spinning unless the unit is moving.

The only thing inside the 6speed transmission side moving when the engine is idling/unit not moving would be the clutch baskets themselves.

No I’m saying I’m going to do both. Isolate the motor off trans and also pull the pan. Truly hoping it is possibly just the clutches. I appreciate all the help gentleman. Hoping I can get this figured out soon and hit the first honey hole.
