Wondering if any of you folks have experimented with different shock springs?

My 700-4D bottomed out bad when I run the full hard cab. So I swapped the stock 700 shocks with 1000-P5 front shocks at all 4 corners. It handled much better, gave a better ride at medium speeds, but is too stiff at slow speeds.

My 700 has a hard short front roof, hard rear window , and a fabric rear roof. In the winter I install the factory glass windshield with wiper and hard doors.

As far as accessories, a winch, second battery, couple of snatch blocks, chain saw, and a 2 gal gas can are always on board.

When I throw my hunting gear in, it might add another 40 lbs. Typically I ride alone.

The pics of the 1000-P5 springs were taken as the buggy sat on the trailer. Looks like I’ve about maxed out the 1st stage of the progressive rate springs. This leads me to believe, when I hit a bump, I’m immediately on the 350# portion of the spring.

Thoughts or comments are welcomed. What have you folks tried ?

You might could find some viper springs on Amazon that would be the correct size. Idk what size the stock shock springs are but they have multiple options on there

Fox shocks would make you happier

Yep, that’s next on the list. However, I’m going to try FOX 1000-P3 front shocks at all four corners of my 700.

That should be interesting. Not sure on the rear area clearance.

If my math is right, I should gain 2 3/4” more shock travel on the front. NOT RIDE HEIGHT. Ride height will be set later.

The rear shock travel should increase by 3/4+”.

I’ll let ya know REM. I ordered the shocks 10 days ago and received them last Thursday. I haven’t had time to open the boxes yet.
Sorry bout that, I got u confused.
I see u have P3’s on the way. Those will have preload.
My question was since u have a P7 if the P7 fox’s had preload? If so, was wondering why u didn't get those? Just curious. No right or wrong.

Most people on here are using single rate 250 lb springs on the front and 300 pound in the rear with fox shocks on the 1000's. Some have said the progressive rate springs that come on them were good on the front. I was confused too. Didn't realize you were putting the fox shocks on

OK, the shock on the left is OE off the front of my 700-4D non adjustable.

The middle shock (red spring) is the FOX front shock for a (1000) P1K-3. Center to center no load. It is about 1/2” longer than the stock 700 front shock.

The shock on the right is the OE off the rear of my 700-4D. It measures 1 1/2” shorter than the Fox front shock for a (1000) P1K-3.

When I remove one of the shocks I have on the buggy now, I’ll take a pic of it also. It should be about the same as the Fox pictured. Those on the buggy now are a (1000) P1K-5 front shock.

The camera angle on the tape measure is slightly distorted. Looking straight down at the tape the measurements are 1/2” for the fronts; and 1 1/2” for the rear.

I understand Sir. I chose these trying to get more shock travel. I wanted a shock that would work thru a longer range of motion.

Wasn’t trying to get more lift / ground clearance.

So p1000-5 will work on a 700? Thought they did not?
Yes Sir they will. No binding, no limit straps required. These are the ones I currently have on my 700. They are (1000) P1K-5 front shocks. I’ll be replacing them with the Fox shocks, trying to get a better ride.

I gotcha. will be interested to see if they will fit with the reservoir being there? ones things for sure, if u get sag with the weight you have, little pre load will fix that ;)

The Fox shocks as stated, are going on my 700.

The factory specs for a 700 list it as weighing 1424 lbs. with 7.9” of travel.

The factory specs for a P1K-3 list it’s weight at 1549 lbs. with 10.6” of travel.

The factory specs for a P1K-5 list it’s weight at 1773 lbs. with 10.6” of travel.

Since I’ve already tried the P1K-5 shocks. I wanted to see what the lighter P1K-3 shocks would do.

I haven’t ruled out Elka’s yet. Just didn’t want to go thru the hassle, or the waiting time FJB !

These only cost me $680. for a pair plus tax, so I can afford to experiment a little. Might help someone else out in the future.

Good to know the info on the single rate springs, I’ll look into that. Guessing someone would make lighter ones as well.

THANK YOU !

Hope that they work out for you. Did you order those recently? This has me wondering if the p1k-3 front shocks will fit on the p1k-5? I ordered some for my 1000-5 in November and the fronts have been on back order. Spring rate wouldn't matter since I'm changing them anyways

Yes Sir. Ordered them from my Honda Dealer on March 22, got them on March 29.

Think my dealer said they list for over $850 a pair now. My dealer has always been more than fair on prices, if you buy the machine from them.
