I'm not going to be able to make Sunday (kiddo has to be back by 3), but I'm free Saturday so I'm looking at options of places to go ride for the day.
Let me know where you crash for the night. I tentatively have a friend from Ashland meeting us Sat night. I'd rather have all our machines parked together, easier to keep an eye on them.I'm going to see what I can manage for a Saturday night stay.
Tent somewhere or nearest Hilton property will be the plan if I can make it work out. I will let you know.Let me know where you crash for the night. I tentatively have a friend from Ashland meeting us Sat night. I'd rather have all our machines parked together, easier to keep an eye on them.
Helmets are required at all state parks including Perry.@lee Can you confirm or deny requirements of helmets?
We may make the run down Saturday evening. Catch a hotel or something. All depends if we can get one of the kids to watch our dogs. Or we may just bring them with us.
The dnr site says there isn’t camping at Perry. Is that bad/outdated info I’m reading? Anyone have a link for where they are booking camping? Looks like the closest Hilton property with an available room is 20-25 miles away in Lancaster. Thanks @Firemedic530 I had to look it up.
I've always used a helmet so I don't pay attension to that rule.
@JeremieBaker the camp is right there and a non electric site is cheap.
But the air conditioning, running water and cable are better at a hotel.
I think a few of us will be there Saturday night.
FYI, the guy at the campground recomended ride command for a trail map.
It is free to load up for the basic map.
Apperently it gets updated by people sharing there data.
I tried it on my company computer and my company phone but somthing whent wonky.
Finally got it working on my Lifetime trail maps tablet.
One of the guys at work told me he takes a picture of the map at the trailhead.
Apperently the volenteer trail crew keeps it up to date.
I'll be there with @MRSNEOHIO in tow.
Lets have one last ride before we have to mount the snow plows!
Quick info:
What: informal one day ride in the middleish of Ohio.
Where: Riding at Perry state Forrest APV area (between Columbus and Zanesville sort of)
When: Sunday October 20th.
The trails
Warning: to ride at Perry you must have Ohio state APV registration. (this is why I am listing this as a state event)
There are some exceptions for street registration or out of state (must have your home state APV registration).
For details consult the Ohio BMV.
State of Ohio BMV
Perry is a relatively small riding area, there are multiple loops from a central staging area.
See the State Forrest web site:
http://forestry.ohiodnr.gov/perry
And the map pdf:
http://forestry.ohiodnr.gov/Portals/forestry/PDFs/SF/perry_apv.pdf
Perry is the only state ride area that doesn't require staying on the trails.
There are a few hill climbs and some out law trails (mostly in the southern half)
The only restriction, stay out of the grey mud.
It's some kind of tailings left over from the mining, it will suck you down to the skidplate and not let go.
There is a 62" rule.
A stock p1k fits on the trails just fine.
No gates or anything, don't need @JACKAL to get you threw (Or not).
The ride
My image is, we set up in the staging area (there are a few picnic tables and a vault toilet).
Ride in and out when ever.
Sit around and bs between riding.
This is supper casual run what you brung.
There is no need to bring tools or crazy quantitys of spare parts.
If you break or get stuck there will be some one to pull you out or back to the trail head.
You probably dont need to bring extra gas, the APV area is just not that big.
Camping
There is a campground next door.
You can ride from the camp to the trails.
No camping at the trail head.
Perry Backwoods Campground
When to ride
I plan to snag an area at the trail head, the area marked P on the map.
We will have some type of banner, either my Honda banner hung on the ramp door of my trailer or maybe even a HondaSxS.com banner.
Start time is when you arrive, end time is when you load up and pull out (Forest closes at 11pm).
I may show up the night before and camp but camping is not officially part of the event. (your welcome to hang out with us thou).
So, who's in?
@Neohio , @Zaleski , @JeremieBaker ?
Who else?
