Eight of us headed up to Clinton BC, a town of about 650 people nestled in the hills and valleys of the Southern Caribou area of British Columbia. The nice thing about riding around there is the unlimited access to Crown land; high alpine, near dessert, burned areas, more lush forest. There are unlimited trails and big vistas. This is my second year up there for the May long weekend. Definitely going back next year.
Day 1: This is the motely crew. Taken just before dark. We did a night ride, to try out the LED lights through an area that burned last summer. It was dusty, but despite the forest burning into the ground, the place was starting to green up and the wildlife was returning. It's going to be a crazy deer area.
This shot was taken in near dark. The camera picked up several machines coming down from the ride.
Day 2 started with a ride up to an de-commissioned fire lookout. The area has been turned into a provincial park and is open for ATV riders. It's a 4,000 foot climb to the top. Fantastic views up there.
Had to dig a snow bank out to get through. The quads couldn't make it over that depth of snow. It was worth it.
Was about 4 celius up there.
360 degree views.
Eventually the rest of the team arrived.
After lunch we headed down to the Fraser River. Past a group of horses, who didn't want to stay around.
More big views... everywhere we went.
Road closed? I think not!!
Oh... yah. This was a 50 foot wide washout from the spring run-offs.
We managed to pick our way down, across the creek and up the bank. No machine was seriously damaged.
23 degree inclines. No prob.
The next morning, we unloaded. You can just see a micro-wave tower on the tallest hill in the background on the right. That was the mission.
Some winching over a deep snow bank was required. Afew of the boys were able to ride over that snow after we tamped it down for them.
Finally got stopped by impassable snow, but luckily we were only 100 feet from the top.
And we got more amazing views.
On the way down, we made a run down some powerlines back to town. Sorry... this is a po-po. He lost a door panel and damaged a shock. No Honda incurred any damage.
This is the po-po driver. Apparently he had a bad hotdog for lunch. Got rid of that hotdog real quick!
Off-loaded by some logging equipment. Last afternoon's ride was through an area that suffered forest fires last summer.
Some stuff was green.
Some areas got hit pretty hard.
Navigation was harder with the melted signs. Luckily I had my GPX tracks from the year before.
Three days, three hundred kms. No injuries. Can't ask for more. The team will return next year.
