I take it this is a bad sign🥺 checking rear diff today, already did the front one. Popped the cover to find this, not sure how it was driving and not locked up.
f***ing donor truck got me again. That thing was the most beat to crap truck I’ve ever seen, should’ve known better but there isn’t much to choose from. Another setback.

Sounds like that ole boy should be flogged! It's always gotta be something though, you know that. Hopefully there aren't any more surprises like that. Truck looks killer

Thank you my friend. Ya but I’m so glad it was caught before were loaded 30 miles down a dirt road and have a problem. Sucks but feels good knowing it’ll be solid.
Only thing left could be rear brake pads, or front bearings(they felt good) everything else new. But front brakes good and it’s a manual so I’ll chance them for just a minute, don’t have additional time.
Surprises should be done. I’m just hoping everything that was done is tight and right, not my norm and no shake down makes me nervous. Lotta bolts and screws lol. Not exactly a street rod that was built that only gets a few miles locally then back to garage. This’ll get used heavily in a minute. Fingers crossed

Got a little weird crap going on with lights and factory gauges. Spent some time last night diagnosing and came up with possibly a loose ground under dash, bad fusible link (those going to fuses soon) not enough ground through the body and multifunction switch bad. So new multi switch and headlight switch today.
I’ll go through and add grounds. Factory was insufficient anyways.

I had that on the one I had, new headlight switch took care of it. Take a good look at the terminals in the HL switch connector, they were known to have poor connections, look for signs of heat/melted plastic

The plug was melted lol. Pretty common like you say. That and the bad wiring there got replaced awhile back.

Found out what took out rear gears. Looks like previous owner backed into a cement block or something like that. There was an impact point right next to the dent the gears made. So pushed the cover into the gears
Hammered that out, welded the tears and a bung in for rear diff temp sensor I’m adding then little bodywork and some texture coat black. looks a little better

Got all the parking lights going tonight. A little more legal looking and ready for the 30 mile trip to the muffler shop tomorrow. Busted up rear diff and all I’m going to chance it. Cross my fingers.

Well I won’t be the only first gen in our campsites this year. My wrecking yard buddy after driving my 2x4 Cummins last year has been on a quest for Cummins. Was a Ford guy but after having multiple problems sold his 7.3 PowerStroke and started buying 12valves. He has 3 second gen now but been asking me to sell him my 2x4, but it’s not going anywhere yet. that’s what he’s been wanting.
time has come I guess, he just bought one with a manual and will be running camper setup as well. I guess I’m not the only one who likes these ol farm trucks. But then again Chris is an old school redneck bigger then me even lol.

Got the call truck won’t be done tonight, ran into issues. So turned tonight’s attention to the camper for a minute.
got a few lights and some usb chargers.
new fixtures are pretty nice have a dimmer as well. Much brighter and use 1/5 the power. Important in a camper
