Ordered my DRF rear extender in early 2022 and finally arrived in early summer.
Ever since I see it I wanted a way to either attach a shelf or something to the inside of the swing door.
Today I looked into this, and this is what I came up with.

I will attach a pack-out box to the door. It will swing out and will open down, creating a shelf I can then put to use as a table in my Overland build.
Below are a few pictures of my mockup. I will be working on it for the MOM overland this fall.

This is proof of concept. I will work on finishing it up soon.

That bed extender is pricey but it's the one I would order also. I've been wanting a couple of the XL packout boxes too. I'm just too tight to make the change from the LG boxes.

I like it. Wish we would have followed through on ours. I think the price tag killed it.

@Hondasxs why no spare on the extender?
Didn't want the extra length.
Didn't want it hard welded there.
A bolt on may be in long term plan but I'm not 100% sure yet.
Usually ride as a group and as long as one of us have a emergency spare... that will do.

Version 1.2 complete.
Fits perfect.
Need to find a wood replacement as it will compress and loosen up over time. Maybe hardwood would be better for V2.
Also need to secure the mount better than 4 wood screws.
Also searching for chainsaw mount ideas.
I want to get a top handle 8 inch gas to be my trail saw.

Why you need to bring so much stuff when you go riding? If I felt I needed to bring that much stuff with me on a ride I'd seriously consider a bigger vehicle like a 4dr Wrangler.
It's for multiple overnight/overland trips. I did 3 days in the Tennessee mountains with @Hondasxs and crew last fall! Hoping to do a few more over the next year!! Tons of fun!

Ya, mostly Overlanding things. 3-4 day camp anywhere adventures through TN.
I like this system so I can pop it off once home when I don't need it.

Xl is all camping gear and clothes.
L is all dry food, jetboil, and personal stuff.
May remove the right stack and put my backpack cooler on top of a small pack out.
For fuel, I can install the RotopaX. But I try to plan, so we don't need it.

Post a few more pictures from the left and right sides. Does the base need to be spaced out 1 1/2" to clear the curvature of the tubes? if so, what's the minimum needed? I have a couple ideas on better mounting to the tailgate

Ya, 2/4 space is enough to clear the curves for the mount, I could trim the mount but I was trying not to.
Cut, you still need a spacer as the box will not sit flat against the inside gate.
I like what I have with my limited fab skills.
