hello, I am new to this forum and not sure what I am doing but here goes , we recently bought a pioneer 500 and I would like to know if its possible to just make a skid plate for it or am I better off spending the money on ebay or an aftermarket one , I realize that in making my own I will need to make the vent holes match the holes that are already on there . I am thinking I can make them out of old truck mud flaps that are the hard plastic ones , any ideas or can someone point me in the right direction to either buying or making, the way I figure it either spend 500.00 from a dealer or spend 10.00 in materials and make it myself

thank you
shawn

Welcome to the forum. You can certainly make your own, and the hard flaps that you’re talking about using would be superior to what’s stock on the P5. 3/8” UHMW however is vastly better than any other material you could use. You can order a sheet of that, make your own and save a few bucks. But SSS is the ticket, I’ve had mine for over 2,000 miles and slid across many a rock and they still look perfect. Well worth the price.

I’ve got 2550 miles with them on my 500. Slides smooth as silk across sticks and stones...Acts as a ski over deep muddy ruts and snow. I just installed Factory UTV UHMW on my 1000-5. Expensive but just one time. Aluminum will bend and break. Also gives me strong piece of mind when high centering or bottoming out. Amazing product!
