Hello, I am trying to change out my OEM seat belts ON MY 2024 Talon X with Simpson D3s. I am having problem getting the seat anchor bolts off to install my new Simpson system. The Honda manual says that the anchor bolts ar 7/16" (SAE) with a torque of 32 nm. When I try a 7/16" socket (from the Honda Service Manual) on the hex head bolt, it is too small. Has anyone else recently trying to remove the Honda OEM seat belts and install the Simpson D3s? It appears that 16mm or 5/8 is a closer fit. Not sure where to go from here.

Suggestion are appreciated.

🤨 Have you tried using the 16mm or the 5/8 sockets?

On my ‘20 x4 I want to say they were 16mm or 5/8”.

They have some sort of thread locker on them…make sure to use a 6 point socket.

Let me check again. They could be Thread Locker read. I think 16mm with the 5 point socket is the solution. I think the online manuals for SXS documentation is incorrect. I think Honda changed in 2024 to 16 mm but that is my guiess. Maybe somone in the club has more insight. I need to take a picture with my micrometer and post it. Thanks for the help.

The 7/16" refers to the diameter of the bolt, not the size of the hex. It's a US DOT requirement, you'll find the SAE bolts on any vehicle with seat belts sold in the US, regardless of manufacturer

Thanks for your help. I understand so a 6 point hex socket is what I need. Do you know if Honda used thread locker red for these anchor bolts.? The seems to be harder than 30nm to loosen up and I do not want to strip out the hex heads.

Again thanks

Normally, a bolt won't strip on the way out unless Honda cross threaded it putting it in. The seat belt bolts are really tight and are red Locktited. A 6 point socket is worth finding. Also use a half inch breaker bar, at least it won't feel so tight.

Thanks CID. I think you are right on target. They are very tight and I suspected that they are Loctite Red from the factory. I tried to see if there was any L-R residue on the bolt but I could not see any which does not mean it wasn't applied. I have a 16 MM 6-point Craftwman socket and I am still having problems. I think I need to find a solvent to dissolve the L-R next and apply it. Normally, you would use heat but THERE IS NO WAY i AM APPLYING HEAT SO CLOSE TO THE GAS TANK!

Again, I appreciate everyone's help.

Thanks for everyone's help. I think the service manual is correct. The threads are 7/16" but the bolt head is 16mm. I think my problem is that at the Honda factory, they Loctiteed Red the anchor bolts, which means I need to find a solvent to dissollve the L-R before I try again. Usually, you would use heat for the L-R removal BUT THERE IS NOT WAY i AM APPLYING HEAT TO THE PASSERNGER SIDE ANCHOR BOLT SO CLOSE TOT HE FUEL TANK.!

Thanks again for everyone's help.

A 7/16” bolt is going to have a 17mm or 11/16 head. Always use a 6 point socket. Hopefully the impact will get it removed.

Let me check out your suggestion. A 16mm hex socket seems to fit the best. Let me try a 17mm and see if this is better.
Thanks
