The NF requires liability insurance here in Idaho. I got what I consider an outrageous rate. I was wondering what everyone else is paying or even if they have insurance?

My rate through state farm was 542 for a year.

I think this is a lot for a small machine. The crux of the matter is they rate it as a dune buggy not an atv since it is technically classified as a utv. I think this stinks.

Just fire and theft. $168/year.
Are you saying if it was classified as a ATV then you would not need liability?
If so, Ya that does stink.

I originally applied as an ATV. The price was half. However, the state farm under writers came back and said it was a utv and charged me double. I checked with the dealer. It is classified as a UTV not an ATV. UTV is used to also classify dune buggies. I would hardly consider this machine a dune buggy.

You are required to have liability insurance regardless if you drive it in the NF apparently.

I tried to just insure it for theft. State farm refused to insure it in this way. They said it was because it was a motorized vehicle. What a crock!!!! I had my Bobcat insured this way in MT.

Anyhow, I thought I would ask the other subscribers what they are paying. State farm seems high to me for such a small machine that I do not use daily.

USAA wouldn't insure in Alabama but they have affiliates. USAA put me with Foremost. Got a full coverage quote for $173 per year. From reading post above, sounds like I got a decent quote.

I was wrong... my quote wasn't full coverage. I opted for full coverage at $260 per year. Still not bad.

Full coverage on my P500 with a +$5K accessory endorsement was about $400 a year through State Farm, same coverage as my vehicles as I will run the roads out west when I go.

Not required but thinking of insuring mine.

NOTE: two friends of mine that had an Atv stolen and their homeowners policy would have covered them IF THEY had them chained to anything, otherwise no. 2nd guy told me before calling it in and somehow a magic cut chain showed up in garage and his was covered. Just a thought.
