P1000 Interesting Head Casting

I wonder why Honda casted those extra ports in the head?
Direct injection?

My guess is that's where the second spark plug is in the Africa engine.

Yep 2nd spark plug. I would think its primarily for backup considering the purpose of the bike.

The only vehicles i have ever had to deal with that used 2 plugs per hole was a late 80s nissan pickup and an early 90s 4cylinder in a fast back stang. Both were junk imo

All new Chrysler Hemi's have two plugs per cylinder and have proven to be very good engines, my understanding is it helps with emissions.

Ya. It looks like second plug to me too.
The 700 has a dual plug and it is set up almost in that location.

Ford ranger 4-bangers had dual plug heads in the 90's and up. Not sure when they started and quit but I had one. This is the pic of mine while replacing a valve.

The p700'd have dual plugs also. From 2015 and up.

Yep.. I was surprised on my last truck when I saw 16 plugs @$7 a piece on the tune up bill.

$7 a plug for your cummins? Huh thats a lot cheaper than the plugs in natural gas powered isl cummins at work. They are almost $60 a plug. Good thing there's only 6.
