P500 LET THE BUILD BEGIN

The Superwinch Terra is a decent winch. Their electrical components (contactor, rocker switch, corded remote, wiring) have a much cheaper look to them compared to Warn.
That superwinch 4500 looks nice. Couldn't resist picking up the 3500 badlands winch with Harbour freight coupon for just $104 today. Will just keep it as a spare or install it on the P500 and move the old 2500 to my atv. Really like the wireless remote on the 2500 for moving stuff around the property. Anyone have the 3500? I'm sure like anything else, you get what you pay for.
If you add the $15 wireless remote from Amazon, your winch remote would look just like everyone else. lol.

I agree with what you guys are saying, but have you seen a post about a winch failing or sucking? Everyone seems happy with their winch even from HF or TSC. BTW I have a Kolpin.

Thanks, just ordered one for a try.
Ha. I just used mine clearing fire lanes on the deer lease.

Super nice being on the business end of the winch hook and controlling the winch at the same time.

SUPER NICE

I actually have a Warn VL 10,000 with a 3/8 Synthetic Line made by Steve at Southeast Overland and a Viking Thimble. Originally the winch came with a steel cable and hook. I have a Warn 3700 I pulled off the RTV but I cannot get it to fit inside or on the front stock bumper. I cannot seem to find a mount made for it either that will also fit the P5. Again right now I'm wising I had welding skills...

Another thought on tires; Since I plan on spending up to 3 months exploring Idaho, Colorado and western Utah, I imagine I will be up at higher altitudes. From what I understand being at altitude will rob you of power with taller tires and thats why I've been looking at the 25" ones. @Moose308 had posted 25" BH on his rig but I don't remember seeing where he's from or the terrain he rides mostly. They did look good though and supposedly perform better in sand and mud over the Ripsaws. I was also looking at the Tusk Trilobites but I know so little about this stuff.....lots to take in without first hand experience.

10,000 with 3/8....might be overkill.

I read where someone posted that the winch should be twice the weight of the machine. Seems 2500 would be enough but I went with a 3500 just to be sure. Much more than that on a 500 might be overkill.

But what if you're winching your P5 and your BA trailer loaded with gear?

You're gonna need a couple of Optima Deep cycles to feed that bad boy.

Double the line you get double the pull.
You can get an extension for when you need extra rope. Lighter cheaper and takes less juice.

So, a 4,500 S is overkill? Maybe go with a 3,500 or is a 2,500 enough? I like to be prepared for any situation but can I get away with a 2,500 S that'd certainly save some funds for other upgrades.
