3500-4500 if you're counting on a trailer....10000 def overkill and it's probably heavy as lead too.
The Warn VL 10,000 is on my truck where it'll stay until I get a new truck. I've never gotten the truck stuck but I've used it many times to pull others out, move trees and tractors. This was at about 10,000' elevation in the Uintas Mountains in NE Utah on part of the UTBDR.

@joeymt33 was anchored to and dragging my truck (5500#)and @Hondasxs 700(1700#) with a double line pull on flat ground. With the snatch block anchored to a tree.

We were winching on his to repair the front a-arm brackets

The winches can do some real work.

But if you're snuck mud can hold on to it.

We stalled out two 4500lb winches extracting a 700 from Alabama clay. Had to double them both and anchor ourselves to two trees.

Recommend a folding shovel to help in those buried situations, have used limbs as levers and ramps to break the suction of mud. An oversized winch could exceed stress on the winch mounting or damage the suspension or frame. You would never think about hooking a winch to a wheel, but the same stress can happen if the tire is against a hard stop, especially with smaller diameter tires. Be creative with more than one recovery approach. Just be smart and get muddy!

10,000 with 3/8....might be overkill.

I got the SW 4500 which is overkill, 3500 should be adequate(don't forget a snatch block). Beyond that, you'll probably tear off the bumper, better to have it stall and do a little shoveling. I'll bet it is sufficient for 99% of the situations you'll encounter.

PS I see Mudder said pretty much the same thing above.

I appreciate the Made In America Aspect of it as well. Its On Amazon for $300 and Winch mount for $54. Do I need a harness or anything else for it? Also an additional Battery seems likely but I am wondering if that would be independent of the Alternator and if so, How do you keep it charged?
Amazon.com: KFI Products SE35 ATV Stealth Winch Kit - 3500 lb. Capacity: Automotive

It'll come with everything you need. Some guys have needed extra length on the cables but what they sent worked for me. You wire the batteries in parallel so they work as one, stator charges both equally. Most guys run an isolator switch but I didn't.

I'm thinking to save some bumper $$ by instead doing something like what @Alan did and that was to mount a short Hi-Lift Jack onto the front tube over the winch and utilizing it as a bumper....? Thoughts?

Does it come with a mount or do I need to order one separately?

You'll need a winch plate to mount the winch. I added a second battery and bottle jack under the drivers seat. It was wasted space as I don't use that area for storage and it helped with the COG. Had to make custom trays for both.

It's the "OH GREAT AND GLORIOUS CARRIER OF THE GNOMOBIKLE." Can you feel the Oneness?
I went by the Blue and Grey store and picked up a JOBOX to mount to the trailer to haul some of my extra gear as well as my P5. Gonna add some Jerry can mounts too. Somewhere a kayak will fit into this picture...You'll see.
The Ghetto Expeditionary Trail-O-Matic Conveyance or 'GETOMAC'..Comes with it's own Disco Ball...Boom Box and Fuzzy Dice...
I'm planning on Rhino lining the Blue Box. Maybe a DIY to save some $$.
Needing to figure out where to mount trailer spare tire.

@trigger I just found out from Sara at KFI, that their winches are also made in China
For Warn, All of their parts are made there and assembled here in America. Seems like we just cannot buy American made anymore.

I was also told by Sara at KFI that their winch is water resistant, and Superwinch said waterproof....
