My 2009 Arctic Cat Prowler is old & weary, has been a good work vehicle for us. Have decided to get a new Honda but can’t decide between 1-cylinder 700-4 deluxe & twin cylinder 1000-5 deluxe. We are retired so slow & steady for us, not interested in wild & fast riding. is the 1000-5 worth the higher price? Will keep my old Arctic Cat for dirty jobs on the farm hauling stuff & repairing fences in woods & muddy areas. Wife will be primary driver on new Honda.

Welcome to the club from Canton, OH.
There are plenty of members that have had both. The opinion I seem to see repeated is if you can swing the additional cost get the 1000. The main reasons I see given are Turf mode, plusher ride and more room.

Red is the fastest color Honda makes!

If she is driving the Honda I feel sorry for you. Get the 1000 it's worth it.

Welcome for NW Louisiana. I'm 63 and the reason I got the 1000 is because Honda doesn't make a 1500cc SXS. There is an old saying, it's better to have it and not need it than to need it.....

If a lot's good, more's better and too much is just right. If you can afford it, get the 1000.

It depends on your riding style and environment - putting around the yard doing lawn care, anything will work.

Trail riding, day rides, time spent driving, terrain - all point to a larger machine with suspension travel (comfort) and 'some' horsepower (smiles).

I'd guess there are fewer folks that regret buying a larger machine than they thought they needed than there are people who regret buying something too small that they quickly outgrew.

The 700 is alot narrower so keep that in mind.
Going between buildings, trees etc.
I like my 700 for woods & farm duty.
Great utility machine.
Needs some add on stuff like a backup light, LED headlights, bed protection etc.

welcome from VA .....I could only afford the 700-4 deluxe but it has never let me down ...had to add a winch due to the mud holes where I ride and a windshield since it gets pretty cold and wet here but over all im very happy with my 700-4

I have a 700-4 delux my son has the 1000-5. I bought the 700 to access 60 inch trails. If that is not a concern definitely the 1000. Better in every way.

I just got a 1000-5, I love it but it's way bigger than my old Gator. I went with the 1000 because I did want some Rzr/talon speed but still wanted a dump bed. And I will have 3+ people ride. I would defiantly look at the 700. I would also get the deluxe. I really like the power steering.

I have a 1000-3 and the turf mode is nice on a lawn and hard surfaces, but a farm doesn't have many paved roads. Plus the 1000 is wider as mentioned and is nice to drive on longer rides - may or may not matter to you Honda makes a good single cylinder engine. The 1000 is definitely a step up in power, speed, and comfort, but it's for you to choose. If cost is a major factor, I'd drive both and see how they feel. I'm sure the 700 would accomplish the work aspect, but for pleasure I'd go with the 1000 if the cost isn't prohibitive.

One thing I'll warn you about is that the 1000 does have a heat build-up if enclosed. I'm still trying to figure out how to cool down my cab. I'm not sure about the 700. Do not buy a full windshield that does not allow for air circulation as I did.

Good Luck.

I test drove the 700 with my wife. I almost flipped it on the big rock they use for demonstrations. We then tried the 1000. Wife is "tight" with our money. She said get the 1000. She didn't feel safe in the 700. Had it for 3 years now. Still love it. Just got lower reverse gears installed. Can't wait for spring to see how she does in the deserts of Nevada.

We have had both. I bought a 2019 700 that was a great machine but it was so loud after about 28 mph it was very loud ,it only has a 3 speed transmission and it shift to 3rd at around 18 mph so at higher speeds the engine is reving pretty high.we bough a 2021 1000 deluxe and we love this machine , so much quieter.

The local Honda dealer called me last week & said a 2023 Pioneer 700-4 deluxe just arrived from the factory. Luckily I was the first on their notify list so now I have it. Also had dealer install a front winch, rear view mirror & extended hard top on it. Still thinking about installing a windshield & sound system. Wife & friends love it, they’re always coming up with reasons to use it. I am enjoying the power steering!
