Just an FYI . Was under my pioneer the other day and bumped one of the plastic end caps that they use to plug the end of the main frame tubing and it fell onto the floor. Checked the other three and one was ready to fall out and the other two pulled out with very little effort . Mixed up some JB Weld and glued them back in. should be good now. those who want their caps in place should check them.

I have some metal caps for the rear due in soon. I also have caps for several other spots in the frame. I'll get them together and post once the metal ones get here this week.

I need all the main frame caps going through limbs and brush has pulled them off.

Need to put a rivet and silicon in them to seal them up. I got some other caps from a fellow pioneer owner to fill in the other open tubes and some of them have come loose as well.

Seems like a few ideas that Honda had for keeping the price down on these machines weren't so good......Instead of welding a cap on the end like they should have done ,they went with cheap plastic caps that don't stay on!

I'm going to have to look at this on mine. But before I reinstall it I'm going to paint the inside well with something! Don't want any rust.

I'll have to agree with some people, I think Honda messed up on this design on our Pioneer. These are pics of the inside of the frame rails from the rear by the hitch receiver.

Front driver side rectangle frame rail pics here. I wouldn't expect to see ANY rust in a tube on a machine that is only about 5 weeks old and only been ridden 4-5 times. I know mud and water is steels enemy but you'd think they'd put some kind of coating in them with open ended tubes.

Pipefighter, this was one of my concerns several months back.
I have been working to find end caps for the rear tubes that fit and want come off when mud'in..... And what you know, today some arrived that fit fully inside the pipe.

Whats to keep them from getting jammed in if they're shoved into a bank or something. I'm concerned this problem is irreparable since you can't just cover up the rust because it will continue to corrode whether you end cap it or try to coat the inside with some kind of sealer.

There is an epoxy paint that has a chemical that counteracts the oxidation in the rust. So in effect it covers and seals it so it will not continue to rust further.

How long before these rails get sealed and converted into air tanks like some jeep bumpers?

@pipe,
I understand what you saying.
But I think this is common among most atv's. It's just that it has been "out of site, out of mind". I'll get pictures a rancher frame we replaced several years back. We just chopped it up for quick removal. The inside was just like your pictures but 4 years worse. It was all black and full of rust.
Same with my 07 Rincon, sometimes after one of our snorkeling adventures... I would have rust drips in the garage for a week.

Here's the caps I have collected so far. I had to order like 50 of each. So I'll have some for sale once I figure out a price!

I guess that'd be better than nothing but I think Honda should have taken that extra step that they're known for. I guess anybody can find something wrong with things once they have the opportunity to do so. I'm sure (hope) they'll last forever like the rest.

I don't think I'd do that with these. I don't think they'll seal anyway with all the stamped threaded holes in them.

Then why cap them off and cause then to retain crud? You're better off leaving them open to wash the stuff out. OR...home improvement stores sell plumbing "caps" that are rubber and expand by tightening a wingnut. Maybe a size could be found?

You would think they'd have dipped the frame in a coating to get all the nooks and crannies... Guess that equipment would have been 'SPENSIVE!
