Just found out about this today... Looks pretty similar to the P5:

Crossover Utility Vehicles | XUV560 | John Deere US

Deal breakers: 16 horsepower, air cooled, top speed 28 MPH

BUT, it has 1100 pound towing capacity, 8" of travel all round, comes with better tires plus the option of 26" bighorns from the factory, comes with the underhood storage and glovebox.

Looks like a cool little machine at a good price! (not trading my P5 for it tho!!!)

Hey, I like that. Not trading my P5 either. But, I'm needing something to leave at my NM property, and that may just be the ticket. If it's 570cc motor is 16 horses, what's the P5's 475cc? Limited slip front diff. 56" wide.

Not 100% sure what the Pioneer 500 horsepower is... but the Honda Rubicon 500 has 27 horsepower according to Honda Pro Kevin:

2016 Honda ATV HP | Power-to-Weight Ratio / Performance Comparison - Utility & Sport Model Lineup

as i'm sure you know, the P5's engine comes from the Rubicon. So I'd say it's safe to assume we are working with close to 27 horsepower. The engine in this gator is probably more like a lawnmower engine than a UTV engine being a small v-twin, and air cooled. But I'm sure it's still enjoyable. And I will bet the overall quality and fit/finish is very good on the Gator, for the price.

Sounds ok, maybe it has a spin on oil filter then. I'm going to stop by and look at it anyway.

They're having alot of problems with those Gators. A buddy of mine was serious about getting one
but heard too many bad things about them... leaking oil, hard starts. I had a hard time believing it as I'm a John Deere tractor guy.
They make a ton of different models and variations but none of them done well.
Unlike Honda, they sell them and then figure out the problems. Good looking machine though.
Just my 2 cents.

That's discouraging. I have John Deere tractors on my properties as well and always have. I wonder why they can't get it together with these. This one however, as ehart observed may have a lawn tractor motor, and they do know how to make those. So just maybe it will be better???

Actually John Deere uses Briggs & Stratton, Kohler and Kawasaki for gas lawnmower engines. I heard a few years back they were supposedly in talks with Honda to use their industrial V-twin engines, but not sure anything became of that. John Deere does make an excellent zero turn mower.
Oh, if this John Deere UTV has a Briggs and Straton motor, I won't even go look at it.

John Deere is a very old American company with a solid reputation for quality.

Agree, but they are good at their market of tractors and etc, but sxs, something that Kubota managed to do better job, I like sxs, especially equipped with diesel engines, that are true utility sxs

Honda makes a Better Side by Side than John Deere!!
There are countless examples in American industry of companies which did one thing well, and went hastily into other markets, and did poorly there.

There is a word in business school for taking advantage of one's good reputation, even to the eventual detriment of that good reputation, to make a quick buck.

It's called "harvesting". It's ironic that John Deere, known for harvesting equipment, would do that, but it seems that they are doing so with their massive reach into consumer goods.

Engineers don't run manufacturers anymore. Marketers and stock-price manipulators do.

John Deere has a reputation for making good tractors. That doesn't necessarily transfer to sport-oriented all-terrain vehicles.

The fact that they just buy engines from various suppliers and plug them in willy-nilly, whether in lawn mowers or SxS's, tells me they don't take those markets as seriously as they take their bread and butter, farm machinery.

I would pass.

Kubota v John Deere I'm sure is subjective.
