The propane ring is the only campfire we use.

Controlled fires such as the ring may be okay. Outdoor fire bans up there this time of year are no surprise. There was a bad outbreak I think in '18 that did a lot of damage in the area. Flying embers are their main concern.

Interstate highway 70 has been closed through Glenwood Canyon for a week now due to a forest fire. A fire can jump miles on an ember caught in the wind so they're pretty touchy about fires right now. A propane ring wouldn't make embers.

I am not a big fire guy! Almost lost my house one time to a grass fire. Plus 2nd and 3rd degree burns on 30% of my body when i was 13. So i am VERY cautious with any flame.

I checked the San Juan county website and didn’t see any local restrictions on fires and also checked for restrictions at SWCWFC. Neither of these show fires in permanent rings are restricted.

Just as an FYI. I am in Pagosa Springs now, and the smoke from the northern Colorado wildfires is getting thicker around here. Lets hope by the time our ride starts, the rains come, the fires go out, and the wind shifts direction. I am so hoping for beautiful scenery, but it may end up being hazy.
