If you run the tie rod loose for a while it can beat up the taper and wear the joint. If you do use locktight and the joint taper is loose, it can be aggravating to get the nut back off if the stud just spins when trying to loosen it. Not to hard to get it loose in the shop but on the trail might be another story. I've had to use a 4' pry bar or clamps on the joint to put pressure on the taper and an impact to get the nut off on a lot of trucks.
A trick I learned back in the dirt bike racing days, use silicone instead of Loc Tite, vibration doesn't affect it and is easy to break lose. I still use this trick.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to look at mine.

In other news I put a new air filter on at 850 miles and realized Honda provided 2 o-ring seals with the new filter but I did not have 2 o-ring seals on from the factory. My intake was very clean but I'm assuming the o-rings are a good thing. Has anybody found their air box to not have the seals installed from the factory?
Yup I have 2016 and didn't have any orings but I put them on first filter change and also have had the tie rod nut back off.

It's the same size as the smaller ball joint castle nut. I used my old ones for this when I got new ones for my arched arms.
Had to use a washer to get nut to reach holes for cotter pin.

Don't know bout you Mike but I feel better knowing castle nuts are on there instead of cheap locknuts.

Yep me also. Not sure why they were not castle nuts from the factory. But heck then we wouldn't have something to mKe better.

I just looked around the shop until I found the right thickness washers and added them below the stock nuts.

My 17 had them. Didn’t look like it did but they were there. Put the new ones in and the right side of my air filter didn’t sit very flush like the old one did. I hope the filter cover pushes it down the little bit that it needs
