I think the wood will hold up fine. I like the plastic stuff, but it is kind of spendy, most travel trailers are little more than a plywood box on wheels. There will be multiple layers of waterproofing on all 6 sides.

I think it'll hold up just fine if protected good. To build your whole trailer out of it would be pricey that's why I didn't suggest that.

Iowa, is there a way you can see yourself moving up to a 700 or 1000? Sure would like to see you join us. If it was up to me I'd just say that we'd move along at 25 mph.
I will someday move up to a 700-4 ,but for now the 500 fit my needs with the rear seats l made. The problem is it has never given me a reason to trade in the 2500 miles I have on it,change the oil and clean the airfilter is all I have ever done.On the blacktop roads it runs best at 35.I just added it up 145 hours,2500 miles,thats17.24 mph average.

I think you could go say, 1/16...Maybe 1/8" wall on the 2x2 square for the receiver. The rest of the basket part I think you'd be good with 1/16" wall, 1.25x1.25 square. That really wouldn't be too heavy.
I hadn't thought of square. You thinking 3/4" or 1"

Lol, my average is probably half that, and 30 is my favorite cruising speed. I understand, a man must do what he thinks is best!

Sounds good. How much did you get accomplished on it today?

Check this out mopar. I was digging around my shop and found this trailer tire my neighbor gave me last year. It's a 205-75R 14 same as the Osprey. Think the bolt pattern will be the same?
