those tires look insane, something off a paddleboat !
Haha yeah you should look up Juggernaut utv mud tires. Those are my favorite. They look about the same as Superior Traction mud tires, but they have some crazy sidewall tread. I would rather get those, but they are sold out of Texas, and the Superior Traction mud tires are sold just a few hours south of me in Florida so i can just drive down and pick them up. Plus they are way cheaper.

Well my portals finally got here! I got them from utvsolutions.com. They are for a 2015 Honda Pioneer 700-4, but im attempting to put them on my 2016 P5. So, right out of the box i can tell they are quality made. Im not real impressed with the sawblade looking brake rotors they sent with them though, they look thrown together. I guess maybe when you mount the brake caliper to the portal hub it brings the caliper further away from the centerline, so you need a bigger diameter rotor if you want brakes. Also, the brake lines are about 3 or 4 inches shy of letting the caliper bolt to the portal, so i gotta get new brake lines for the front. Also, they told me 6" portals will fit inside 16" wheels, so i ordered 16" wheels. Guess what? They dont fit inside 16" wheels. So now i gotta either spend big bucks on 18" wheels, or get about 1.5" wheel spacers to get the wheel off of the portal. I opted for the 1.5" spacers and ordered them on Amazon Prime just now. Thats another $120 towards this project. :( I think the top a-arm ball joint is slightly too fat for the hole in the top of the portal bracket because the castle nut could use a few more turns so i could get the cotter pin in. Bottom ball joint is fine. The steering ball joint thing had to be loosened up and ran all the way in to shorten it up where i could plug the steering balljoint into the hole in the top of the steering bracket on the back of the portal. I took a measurement with the wheel all the way turned to see what size tires i could run, i think i can gey away with a 34" mud tire. I was hoping for 35's. The further out you go, the smaller the tires have to be because when you turn they could rub the floor pan. Who knows, i might get 35's and drive easy until i can find some aftermarket forward a-arms or something. Im not concerned with it getting wider. Getting wider on a P5 is a good thing, unless you live in a 50" state. Iy will make it more stable while im sitting up higher. All these things seem like a pain in the butt, but you gotta remember these things are made for a P7-4, not a P5, so overcoming little obsticles should be expected. Anyway, i guess im at a stand still until the wheel spacers come in, then im gonna get a final measurement with the wheel mounted to see for sure what size tire i can fit. Hopefully friday ill be running to buy my tires. Anyway, ive yacked enough. Heres some pics.

Call some of your local speed shops, see if you can borrow a ball joint reamer to make the bj hole bigger for better thread engagement.

Excellent tip! I didnt know there was such a thing! I was thinking of a tapered drill bit, not the tapered step bit, but ive seen them where they are a smooth taper from one end of the bit to the other. I dont know if that would be the same degree taper as a balljoint though. There is a speed shop in town, i will call them today. Thanks!

Well ive been itching to get home and mess with the portal hubs some more. By the time i get off work and get home ive just got a little bit of daylight. I put the passenger side front on yesterday, tonight i got the drivers front. Tomorrow ill start on the back, etc.. im having to work on it on the side of the house between the boat and camper because im afraid if i did this on the concrete slab under my carport, when i got the tires on this coming friday it might be too tall to roll out from under the carport lol. Heres a couple of pics.

Ok i got the drivers side rear on tonight. This thing is gonna be rediculously wide. Its probably gonna be hell on ball joints too lol. Im not real happy about them telling me 16" wheels will fit around 6" portals, but ive already got the wheels and painted the removable rings on the wheels red to tie in with my color scheme. :( 18's would be best and that would get them inset some and i could run a slightly bigger tire than with them being stuck out the side. I'll be getting dirty for sure when we go mudding, but thats the goal anyway, i like to get down and dirty. Lol. Heres a few pics of what i just did.

When are these wheels and tires going on? How wide do you think you're going to be?

Im supposed to be getting the 1.5" wheel spacers tomorrow (thursday) which will allow me to mount the 16" wheel without it rubbing on the portal. Once i mount the wheel on the front im gonna measure to see what size tires i can get away with. Im driving 2.5 hours south of me to Tarpon Springs, Fl to buy the tires friday morning. Then a 2.5 hour trip back home and either having a tire shop somewhere along the way mount them for me, or i mount them myself. With luck i should have the tires and wheels mounted on the P5 by friday late afternoon. There will still be loose ends to tighten up though. Brake lines, putting locktite on all kinds of stuff, filling portals with gear oil, etc, etc... im thinking it will be as wide as my wifes 700-4 easily.

Did you have to upgrade to 700 front brakes and calipers? Or will the 500 stuff bolt up?

P5 and P7-4 front brake calipers are the same, and use the same brake pads also. The P-5 front brake hoses are about 4" too short though so now i need to get longer brake lines made or maybe i can get the front brake lines off of a P7. Not sure. I havent looked at my wifes P7 brake lines yet too see if that would work. The P7 has longer a-arms so it should have longer brake lines, it might be an easy fix.

Lol thanks. I dont know if you can call it skills though. Just lots of part #'s research and unbolting and bolting parts. My wheel spacers were delivered to my front porch today according to Amazon, so i should be able to bolt the wheels on tonight when i get home and get a final measurement on what size tire i can get away with.

Well i got my 1.5" wheel spacers, i think i actually coulda scraped by with 1" spacers so i think i will order them before the Pioneer Takeover. It measures 61 1/2" wide from outside of wheel on one side to outside lip of wheel on the other side. I think i will be able to barely fit 35" tires on it. I do believe they will rub from time to time. It will help when i get the 1" spacers. I also have ambitions of finding forward a-arms for the P5, but i refuse to deal with outkast. So when i find someone else that builds forward arms i will check them out and maybe deal with them. So im supposed to meet the superior traction tire guy 2.5 hours away at 8:30 in the morning and get my tires. Wish me luck! Heres some pics.

Yes there is a 4" portal lift for the P7. I think it was $2650 from utvsolutions.com. That is the one i was intending on getting, and then my buddy on my crew at work said i had to "Go big or go home", lol so i said, "screw it", and ordered the 6" portals. Lol

Now the front is gonna take a little work. I gotta mount the saw blade rotor things. Im also gonna rob the front brakelines off of the wifes P7 to see if they will let the caliper be mounted to the portal if theyre long enough. Gonna try to align the front end also before i put front tires on. More pics later..
