To light or to heavy of a coating or not cured enough. Most of the powders are around a 15 min cure at 400 degrees. You got to get the part up to 400 before starting the timer. Wrinkle finishes usually don't wrinkle till the end of curing. Might try re-baking them. Most powders also have 100% over bake capability. If you have an IR gun, shoot them to get the surface temp. Oil on the part can cause it to not wrinkle also.

Ok I stuck them in like a cake I did not wait for them to get to temp then start timer. They were clean.

Need a different oven then may try rebaking them.

Use a quality forged hook and dont un-forge it by baking it.
Well can't argue with the quality part. They are rated for 9900lbs each so well under what the winches can put out or the rope rating.

I'm probably wrong but I didn't think any real change to steel would occur below 1000F unless it was for a period of time much much longer than is required for powder coat or unless it was quenched.

Where I had the pod lights mounted either side of the light bar was worthless. I saw several people with them mounted behind the B pillar and some as far back as the C pillar. I pulled my 7” rear light bar off and freed up a circuit that was almost never used and I mounted them off the rear seatbelt bracket. They work better here I may upgrade the lights themselves later.

Do you have a farther back view of this. Curious about changing mine as well to provide better lighting. where I have mine are OK, but not as good as I would like

What do you want to see of the mounting point I’ll take a pic

Curious what it looks like from farther away, and what you attached the bracket to. I would think that location would provide better lighting for the driver looking sideways, considering doing that to mine as well

Bolted it to the upper seatbelt bracket. Had to offset the light mount to oneside and add 3-4 washers as a spacer to be able to angle it.

I’ll take a picture later with them on, they are cheap Amazon lights and seeing @joeymt33 and @snuffnwhisky beam pattern from the Rough Country lights I’ll swap them out later it’ll be worth a little extra vs amazon specials. Parts budget is lean for a bit so I just moved them to same spot as snuff had his.

I wanted a 18” front bar to replace the 40” with since it’s such a high draw and I didn’t need all the light the 40” put out but couldn’t find what I wanted on amazon and mounted even lower and more out of sight lines. Snuff has the Rough Country there as well and while better optics than the Amazon special I’ll do it later.

For reference the tree line is 70’ from the lightbar, the clearing is @70’ wide. It’s where I’m putting my shop at some point.

After seeing all the whips through dust and trees I am sold on their usefulness on night rides. I still think they look stupid but if they work, they work.

I wasn’t paying $300 for a set so I got on Amazon and picked up the parts and pieces for about $80, and an hours worth of work. I COULD have saved about $30 but I wanted them to be installed/removed in less than a couple mins and looking back that could have been accomplished a slightly different, and $30 cheaper way.

I have them wired with a 3-wire weatherproof connector that I can seal off when they aren’t mounted.

Only going to use them if night riding or daughter wants them on, she thinks they are “awecool”. I’ll take her thinking dad is cool as long as I can get it even if I’m really not.

The powder coat did alright but I think the mini oven I was using did not maintain a good even temp. Some of the black are glossy when they should be a wrinkle finish and the red didn’t wrinkle at all, meaning they didn’t do what the rest did. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please share. This was my first rodeo. I think I have found a $25 CList oven to use for powdercoat.

Looks under cured. Pick up a used electric house oven. I never got good results with the toaster style ovens. If the cure time is 12min at 400* PMT I normally add at least 5-10min to compensate for part temp. The hook being so thick you may need to add additional time for it to reach temp. You can try re-baking the parts and if that doesnt work grab some aircraft stripper or the spray stripper Walmart carries and give it another go.

I also like to use acetone to clean before then hit the part with a small map torch torch to rid of any moisture, oils, or fibers left over from towels etc. If you have any questions text me

Heres a wrinkle black over gloss black RTIC I did for a guy last week. The gloss I did a partial cure of 9min then the wrinkle I did 16min.

That’s what I was thinking was under cooked, and I have been looking for a CList oven, keep finding them cheap in N AL but around here people want a premium. So I tried a mini oven....

Already had some of these for another project, could hardwire or wrap/seal the connectors that come with it.

I used a flag and wrapped black rubber tape around it, I should've used a CB antenna. Would've saved time and money.

I've been looking but for a single in-wall so I can build a rolling box for it to get that intense amount of heat OUT of the garage aling with the fumes. So that narrows my search results.

Went to the dark side....

Picked up a Galaxy Tab 8" for mapping, processor is slow for tablet use but maps work. View attachment 74820

Sent from my SM-T380 using Tapatalk

Had this thing for a few days I have to say I'm less than impressed with it in general as a tablet. I have a 4 year old iPad that I gave to wife to replace her 6 year old iPad and this is supposed to be last year's model android tablet(Sept 17`)... Android is weak compared to the 6year old iPad.

Works great for maps though I've been messing around with it using some local maps I found and it works really really well. So if you're on the fence about using a tablet from @Lifetime-Trailmaps spend the coin and get one. I will say i picked up a tablet from Amazon because I could get 2year damage coverage there and having @Lifetime-Trailmaps load the maps on it.

Decided to copy @joeymt33 door mod and I cut holes in the rear doors. Wow those things are cavernous. All the gear I usually carry in the bed can now be stored away in the doors once I get different storage bags that fit better. Hopefully it stays cleaner, the extra gear weight is much lower, doors don’t rattle, and the bed is free to be cargo or people much easier than before when I had to rearrange everything or pile stuff on top of other stuff.

The ONLY a downside I see is if I am leaned into the door panel that has my recovery gear stored in it. I may keep a short tree saver and block in the glove compartment.

I ended up mounting the stainless hinge to the plastic panel first. Then remounting it to the door taking a piece of masking tape and lining it up along the bottom side of the hinge marking each end then removing the panel and lining the hinge up so that it was in the same place. A few rivets later and she’s done it was quick, maybe 30-45 mins.
