We should do a pole to see how many 'episodes ' the p500s had at the takeover.
Mine was only once this year, but I'm using my standard excuse, it wasn't really my fault.

I like the idea of keeping the weight low.
But I have not figured out what to do with a spare yet.
In a big group like the takeover there is always help around to run back to camp and get the spare from the trailer.
But when riding alone its a diffrent story.
I like the idea of deflating it, and standing it on the rack behind the driver.
It would be easyer to strap down with little/no air and I carry a pump.
Standing up it would take less rack space.
And behind the driver it would not block my view when backing.
Need to figure this out before the Piute trail ride.

Do you guys think having it so high makes it floppier? Tipsy top heavy? You saw me flopping thrice at takeover...The way I drive...
YES!!! I’m usually one of those with two of everything. I cut waaaaay back this year and the minimal weight really makes a big difference. Not only for the tippyness (and I’m in a 1000) but less weight equates to less breakages too. That’s what’s great about an even like the takeover with so many like machines. You don’t have to be a one man army.

Adding a spare to this machine will raise the COG regardless, there's just nowhere else to go. Put mine as low as I could and added 1" spacers after the first ride. IMO, as soon as you start adding stuff to this machine, the 50" goes out the window. Once you've accepted that, spread it out until it feels right. Put mine on its side once at the takeover but wasn't puckering at all before it happened, this P5 isn't tippy.
Prepare for every ride with the expectation that nobody is coming to save your ass.

Any Spare Tire mounting recommendations out there???

I would like to keep the mount in a relatively low position with an eye to the P500 COG. I have one bolt-on application that may work. I'll post up the results a little later in this thread.

I figure some of you folks out in "big sky country" or up in the land of the "midnight sun", who run spares for extended hunting excursions, may have an idea I can pilfer and claim as my own..

I built my box to hold a spare. I also added a tool box. I never found what I wanted so I designed my own and am happy with it.

I mounted my spare vertical and fully aired up in the center front to rear. Picture below.
Since this was taken I have replaced the totes with waterproofed lockable boxes from Tractor Supply mounted in the same position. Tired of the dust in all my stuff.

Is the tire loose in the bed, or is it mounted to something, or strapped in? I'm looking to do something very similar for what I'm building. I was mainly looking for a mount or sorts. I thought about this, but not sure yet what to do.

I just ordered this mount to lay the tire securely in the bed. Two of my Erickson straps were a bit beat so I replaced them with these for $11.28 each. From Etrailer.

Just can’t bring myself to put up with the weight and the volume of luggage that a spare tire adds. With a combined 12,000 miles on four sxs’s I’ve yet to ever even have to break out plugs or inflation.

I mounted a bottle jack, and carry a 4way lug wrench. Haven’t mounted my spare tire yet.
Hey Tim, Take a look at a small car scissors jack. they are much liter than a bottle jack and have 2.5-3 times the lift range, and are very fast to go up or down compared to the bottle. (Junk yard for 5-10 bucks)
