The Sound: 11/10/21

I finally got around to posting about my sound system. I installed a Swamp Donkey overhead stereo. In additon I installed a Rockville Marine Amp, Rockford Fosgate Sub, and Kicker PODS as well. The rear Kicker speakers are ran to the headunit and connected in parrallel to the outside speakers. The amplifier is installed up front under the hood and connected to an AUX battery under the driver seat. The cable runs to my fuse box which is tied directly to the AUX battery. The subwoofer used is a Rockford Fosgate shallow mount in box from Amazon. It sounds better than I expected. The sub would most likely perform better if installed in a true custom box however the sound works well for me. I pulled the carpet off the box, sprayed it with flexseal, and did a couple coats of harbor freight bedliner spray. It turned out well. The mount I made used 2x2 angle that was 56" long. I drilled a hole on each end 3/4" from the edge. This is where the NiLight mounts bolted into. I used a 3x3 angle to make a bracket for the edge and drilled it 1 5/8" from the inside for its mounting holes to attach to the NiLight mount. From the main 2x2 length I used 13" of 1" flat for straps. All the holes are 1/2" to give a little adjustment room. Everything turned out really well. The orange paint used is the Rust Stop from Westlakes. The Kicker POD speakers are mounted using 1 3/4" exhaust clamps. I apparently I did not take any photos of the POD speakers being mounted and painted. I will have to try to get some installed pictures later. The amplifier mounted under the hood near the factory intake. I used another members under hood snorkel mod to make it work. The relays under the cover I moved them into a horizontal position. I used a 90 drill adapter and some stubby bits to cut new slots so the relays attach in a fashion similar to the OE design. Cut slow and just check for fitment as you go and make sure you are clearing any frame parts as you cut. The amp is secured using 2 screws into the plastic using the factory mounting holes. Everything is solid when its done.

Seat Power: 11/10/21

I installed a large auxillary marine battery under the driver seat. I am going to use it to power all of my accessories including the winch. I wanted a FVP brand but during install menards was out of stock. A walmart 24DC was used in its place. When its time for a replacment I will get the FVP i originally wanted. The battery is mounted using the Superstart 01409 tray. I used large washers to secure it to the floor. The wires were ran along the underside of the frame and will be protected by the SuperATV skid plate. I would have preferred 8ft cables after attempting to install everything. The cables are connected to an Amazon fuse box, it did get some surface rust after a while so I used a battery terminal protector spray on the panel screws. It is tied into the system using a TrueAM UTV isolator. Lastly I installed a trolling motor plug that I will use as a charging port if I need to charge the battery after I run it out of juice by not running the engine long enough.

Wow, that's one hell of a job, kudos man! I'm curious, in the beginning of the thread you said basically it was for a little bit of play but mostly for the property. It looks to be more the opposite now, was that by design or did it get away from you? I'm curious because I just got mine a week ago, for work on the property mind you, and I'm fighting the urge to make it for play.

It is used mostly for work. Everything added was to help make it more usable for work and for fun. It is an Awesome project that I love doing. It is interesting to see the things that my wife is intrigued by when she sees other machines and she makes requests for those things as well. The LED lights for example I really like and came at a request from my wife after seeing other machines. A nice sound system that could be listened to while working was my idea and she requested a subwoofer to make it nicer. The machine is used almost everyday for running around the yard and checking things and animals. It is used every weekend on any project we have. It makes moving objects so nice. It is being used less for fun however since the closest ATV park to us closed since labor day(if I remember correctly)

If I had a few do-overs it would be a glass flip up windshield. I would appreciate the ease of cleaning it or adding wipers as it tends to get dirty and while working it is so tempting to just want to wipe it off with your sleeve or something. The tire choice I made is very aggressive to the yard. If it is wet outside they tear it up very quickly. However the performance is still amazing! Even when we are just working, pulling trees, moving trailers, those tires just go. I would also go with a larger winch. I used a 3500lb champion and it is not big enough. Lastly I would have loved the c fab arched arms with built in lift versus the high lifter. However I still stick with my decision to choose highlifter because I purchased the extended warranty thru my dealer and he had agreed during negotiations that if I purchased the warranty coverage and used high lifter as my choice of lift he would still warranty for me some parts that other dealerships would not cover because my dealer is a high lifter dealer. You may find some people have that warranty experience. For example, a friend of mine who purchased from a different dealership who has a stock P1000 was denied cv shaft replacement @ month 10 under OE warranty coverage because of aftermarket wheels and tires. He had 28" kenda executioners. He was told his tires are too aggressive, with wheels too heavy and that is what caused the cv shaft failure.

With that being said I love the machine. It does everything I could ask of it. It is a hard worker that is very capable of playing.

That is very cool. I see some of what your doing and it has given me some ideas. Like yourself my wife is being an influence on what I'm going to do, like the stereo. If it was up to me I wouldn't put one in, but she wants one and it's giving me a headache on what I'm going to use and how to run it. 😆
I've purchased a 5k winch from harbor freight, actually it was one of the first things I bought right after the freaking windshield. Riding around without a windshield sucks.:( I already have a second battery and isolator ready to go in, leftover from my ranger I had before this. Everything else I've got pieces here and there but nothing really installed yet.
I like your overhead storage ideas and I think that's the direction I'm going to go in. I don't think I'm going to put a lift on mine though. I hear what your saying on the warranty, and I purchased the extra warranty as well, I don't want to do anything to give them a reason to not honor it. I've got some friends who work at the local dealership and they gave me a heads up on what would be covered and what wouldn't be. In about 5 years when my warranty is up we'll see.

That battery will serve you well. That is, unless you happen to end up upside down. Electrolyte (acid) will leak out rapidly when that battery is tipped over.
I recommend you replace it with an AGM battery when it’s time. More expensive, but no leaky in any position.

Time For Some Catching Up: 07-09-21

I did a few projects thru the month of July. I added the high lifter logo that came with my control arms to the rear of the roof. I put some orange paint under it to keep up with the nice theme.

I added 2 bungee style cargo nets to the rear top of the rig above the seats. I used a small hole net that is black and then a second larger hole net in orange. I used the provided clips in the packaging to wrap around the various edges of the ROPS.

I added some Kolpin mounts to the upper rear ROPS. I used hose clamps to attach them to the ROPS. I use these mounts to hold a shovel that I got from Menards.

I used the space on the driver side upper ROPS area to mount an axe as well. It fits solid and tight. I drilled a hole on the rear plate section where a pin is passed thru securing the axe in place.

I mounted a hi lift jack onto the ROPS overhead towards the rear. I used some jeep bar mounts.

I got the spare tire mounted and beadlock painted.

Lastly I purchased the vinyl decal stickers in orange. I have only done the front and have not done the rear yet. I was a little disappointed in the fitment. They don't seem to be accurately cut and it would have been super nice if the seller had used transparent transfer tape.

So far everything seems to be working out well.

What's your reason for doubling up on the storage nets?

You have a good point. At the time I ended up with this option based on availability. I can definitely see the pro to the AGM.

I like the orange color as an accent color, the orange net has larger holes while the black net has smaller holes. So I combined the two to get the color I wanted and the storage capability that I wanted as well. If I could have gotten a small hole net in orange I would have chosen that.

A New Color: 04-27-22

It is time to repaint the beadlock rings. COVID forced me to change colors. Westlakes is out of stock and on backorder for the safety orange I typically use. The new color is just orange. It's a little red for my taste. But I need the machine to clean up for a special occasion.

The Best Seat In The House: 04-27-22

I had an issue at ride royal blue where my bottom seat separated. I purchased a kemimoto cover and installed it. So far it is holding everything together really well!

A Deep Clean: 04-29-22

Had the pioneer professionally detailed, it has not been this clean since the day it was purchased. Everything is nice and greasy shiny!

A Special Occasion: 04-30-22

One of my brothers requested use of the pioneer for his junior prom. They drive to the school in a large parade starting from down town. At the school your ride gets valet parked until the end the of night when you are ready to leave and they just bring it around for you to drive home. There were kids with everything from tractors to horses. It was really cool and made me so happy when he requested it.

Why We Can't Have Anything Nice: 05-01-22

The very next day my wife and I went to a newly opened offroad park and muddied it all up! The pioneer can't be too clean, that would be blasphemous!

I had to pull out a friend of mine who was trying to be pulled out by a Polaris general and all 3 of us got stuck. I was able to winch myself out and reposition and get the general and other pioneer out. Then cleaned it all off in the water.

Tipping The Scales: 08-05-22

I weighed the machine, with me in it at 1 bar away from full with all current modifications it weighed 2420lbs.

The champion winch might not be as bad as I thought after knowing how much the pioneer weighs. It is still too light however that is my fault and not the winch.

I have some stuff to install hopefully over the next couple of weeks. I plan on taking some days off work and getting some things done.

Just read through this whole thread... What a labor of love sir!! My congratulations to you and your bride!! That's a fine looking functional machine! I've started down a similar path with my '16 P15K and it's been fun so far... Not even close to the class you're in but still a fun project... I have a bunch of parts sitting in the barn waiting on me to get home this evening to continue... Reading through your thread has given me yet more ideas... And mine is more of a tool too around our farm here in SE Texas... Play time is when I take it to South Texas brush country to chase ol' big buck...
