The Purchase: 07-16-20

Hello All! I don't think I have made an introduction yet. I have been on here for awhile now. My wife and I are from central MO. We recently purchased our first home on 20 acres almost a year ago. We have had a couple Honda 4 wheelers for maybe 4 years now and enjoyed the off road fun they provide. When we moved to our house we realized the benefits of having off road machines. Our jobs quickly outgrew the 4 wheelers. We have a 1984 trx200 and a 96 300ex. Our final decision came when harvest of our gardens came time and the use of a quick mode of transportation with heavy pulling capacity was desired. In our research we wanted something decent. It started at tractor supply with the Massimo :p then realized for a couple grand more you could get into a base ranger. Then the thought process emerged that we could have family ride with us in the side by side, especially when we make our trips to the off road parks. So we decided it needed at least 4 seats. Then realized 4 seats create a side by side limo that does not turn so graceful. My wife came to me and mentioned there is a side by side she found that the rear seats fold in and out of the rear. It keeps the short wheelbase and has a dump bed. Lo and behold a Pioneer had been built! We started doing our research into the Honda and found it had pretty much everything mechanical that you could desire. We made the decision that this is the machine for us. We contacted a dealer and went to see it in person. We wanted a white one. At this time covid was starting to become a thing and was pushing dealer inventory into the unknown. No one local had a white one. We had 2 dealers politely warn that the white would be an unknown delivery. So we started making calls to the local dealers. No one wanted to haggle prices. Thru 5 Honda dealers none were willing to budge from msrp and all claimed low inventory or no inventory. I found a local powersports dealer who sells everything from boats, atvs, golf carts, all name brands. 1.5 hours away and he had 2 2020 camo deluxe 1000-5 machines for 17,325 OTD on pallets ready for build and purchase. He said he wasn't aware of low inventory and when asked why he was so cheap his response is that if Honda goes belly side up tomorrow it's no skin off him. He has ten other manufacturers he sells. He doesn't plan on taking advantage of price. So ends our search for a machine and the pioneer became our new toy.

It was dark when it first came home. It was machine only with no accessories.

The First Accessory: 07-20-20

I installed a champion 3500lb winch with synthetic rope and kfi mount. I haven't had an issue yet with the winch but I regret buying one so light. I thought if I doubled the weight of the machine then that is what size winch I should get. I got a good deal on it thru Amazon @$130. The mount was thru eBay @$60. I then found out everyone seems to be running 4500lb+ winches. I plan on getting a larger winch in the future and mounting this champion winch onto one of my other 4 wheelers.

Some Safety Concerns: 08-04-20

The second thing the pioneer got was a safety flag mount and safety triangle mount. I made a thread on what I did.

Vacation: 08-08-20

The next thing it got was a harbor freight canvas tarp roof. Got the free flashlight too :p

I used bungee balls from menards to attach it.

Got it all put together and ready for our vacation to Michigan. We drove all over Drummond Island and it was a blast! I wish MO allowed for ATV use the way Michigan does. We learned a lot of things during our rides. This picture was taken on a trail at Drummond.

On the way home we stopped at Silver Lake Sand Dunes. That was a blast!

A Roof Over Your Head: 08-30-20

It finally got a real Honda OE roof. I got a deal on ebay. It was 535 shipped and taxed to my door. I got an ebay rebate of 150 for opening and using an ebay credit card. So my total was $385. It was delivered by semi in a giant box.

A Wonderful Gift: 09-08-20

My grandmother was intrigued by our new ride. We took her around the property and she loved it. We talked at great lengths our plans for the machine and she was thrilled. Around where we live everyone drives these side by sides like cars and she was so excited for us to have one. She bought us the windshield for the pioneer. A SuperATV flip up.

Upgrading The Comfort: 09-13-20

I got ahold of some cushions on Amazon for the rear seat. It makes it more comfortable and keeps the seat belt buckles from digging in so bad to your side. When not in use they get hung on the center ROPS. They were originally $12 each when purchased but I see as of the time of this post they are now $25. So far our passengers appreciate them and they flip to the other side for orange if that is your fancy.

Something To Listen To: 09-20-20

I got a bluetooth speaker to hang from the center ROPS by some bungee balls. It does ok. It's loud enough to hear but it's not impressive. I have plans on a roof top MB Quart System for the future.

Most recently I followed a DIY from @SuperMidget and made my own led whips. Mine did not turn out so good. I used a fiberglass rebar rod from menards for my core. They work but I plan on doing them over again and making a much better set.

I haven't posted in a while in there but have since stepped my game up. Awaiting some parts to deliver hopefully tomorrow and its game on to finish these up.

Those are some nice mounts! May I ask how to acquire a pair?
I ordered mine direct from a factory in china. Minimum order is 100 pieces but i was able to swing a 10 piece sample order for this initial test run.

You can find them on many websites for around $20 each. I'm using 16mm pin quick disconnects with a 5" 5/8 shoulder bolt and running it into the pvc with my impact. Had to get creative.

Performance Upgrade: 09-27-20

I did the OEM muffler tip replacement using the Yamaha grizzly 700 tip and spark arrestor for better flow. It gave it a better tone that I like. I will assume it flows better than stock because the spark arrestor is simple and flat. The tip itself is slightly larger and shorter.

Whip Lights: 10-23-20

IMG 20201031 222518 IMG 20201031 222459

My whips consisted of fiberglass rebar from menards

LED strip and Bluetooth controller combo from Amazon

https://amazon.com/GUSODOR-Waterproof-Bluetooth-Controller-Decoration/dp/B07XHKN8QL?tag=sxsweb24-20

I used extensions from Amazon to run the wire

https://amazon.com/Black-16-4ft-Extension-Connector-Wire,RGB/dp/B075FGSTG4?tag=sxsweb24-20

I used the nilight mounts to mount it to the ROPS

https://amazon.com/Nilight-90023B-Mounting-Off-Road-Vertical/dp/B07D9HFFQ6?tag=sxsweb24-20

I used clear shrink tube to seal up the whips

https://amazon.com/HobbyUnlimited-P...Shrink-Diameter/dp/B07T8C4WD4?tag=sxsweb24-20

I cut the fiberglass into approximately 5ft lengths. Then I wrapped the fiberglass in electrical tape to help the LED strips stick. I wrapped the fiberglass with the LED strips and then sealed them up with the clear shrink wrap. I cut the rods down to the proper length and then used chair leg caps to put onto the tips. I used 1/2" collar nuts threaded and JB welded on the ends for mourning. I am not happy with them. They didn't turn out as clean as I had hoped and I had the wrong count of LEDs per strip. I plan on redoing them and making a nicer set and make a more detailed write up of them.
