If you're really cheap... 1.5" thick styrofoam, 12.95 at walmart. Holds the cold as well as any other cooler, but a little fragile for wheelin'.

I doubt any of ya have one like this bad boy! It is military surplus, not technically made for a cooler, but does the job and tuff as nails! Actually made to hold 3 canisters to transport hot meals for troops. I think they stopped using them after Vietnam. I can not recall the nickname they gave it. Mermites. I have two. I've never used them though and I wonder how long they hold ice for?

They seem to hold ice as long as any other 'average' cooler, and nearly indestructible.
what do you mean by average, like the run of the mill cheap ones or like yeti, Rtic or ozark trails? thanks

To me, yeti, etc are anything BUT average. Average, run of the mill coleman, igloo, etc.
I just didn't wanna fork out some cash for a cooler and was hoping my mermites would work.

Just go buy a new age cooler, if your not a Yupie brand guy, buy what's the best value per QT.

I just returned from Wally World and I cant see forking out $140 for a cooler I'm gonna use just for 3 days. I have a decent Igloo and two Mermite military coolers I'm just gonna make do with what I have.

My cheap igloo coolers will keep ice for a whole day. If I put a case of beer in a cooler, the beer never lasts as long as the ice.

Im looking to get a new cooler to carry in the sxs...and im cheap..dont really want to pay yeti prices. I know theres alot of other brands out there. What brand are you carrying?..what size? And would you buy again.
In the south Fl heat and sun the Lifetime lasted 2yrs on the back of the truck. Latches and hinges were still good, it just wouldn't hold ice

I picked up an Orca 35 last summer and it is by far my favorite cooler.

Use a couple of cheap ones because they're small. The little Playmate holds the sammiches and the slimline Rubbermaid holds the drinks. Made to go behind you on a quad but it fit perfect in the bed. Hold enough for two people for a full days ride. Have had ice left in them two days later, pretty well insulated the way they're set in there.

That’s probably my next cooler. I have a yeti 35 and 75 right now. They are pretty good but I think the Orca is better. Having said that, I’ve had two claims with yeti on my 75 and they’ve stood behind their product and my 35 had been beat around in the boat, bed of the truck and the Pioneers.

This weekend I went away with some family and friends and decided to get out one of my bigger coolers. It's a fancy Igloo "Island Breeze". Put 36 busch lites in it on friday around noon with a large bag of ice. Last night (over 48 hours later) there was still a good amount of ice left. The cooler spent the weekend in the bed of my truck under a black tonneau cover. It was in the mid 70s on saturday and in the sun so it was really hot in the bed of the truck.

If a $30 cooler would keep ice all weekend for me, why the heck do I need a $200 one? LOL. Even better, nobody will steal it!
