I remember a member posting about going down a trail at slow speed and a limb coming thru the passenger wheel well and nearly hitting him. I thought, "what are the odds of that happening?" Well it turns out, that in my case, the odds were pretty good.
I put the spray rig in this morning and went out spot spraying thistles. Going about 5 mph in low range, stopping and starting often, hanging out the door, looking at the ground. I was nearly thru when I heard a pop from the passenger side and a stick came thru the wheel well, about 2 1/2 feet. Scared the crap out of me. It ripped a hole in the wheel well about 5" long.
It amazed me that the stick came thru the wheel well so easily. I was going no faster than 5 mph and had someone been in the passenger seat, they could have been seriously injured.
Are many folks experiencing this issue, or am I just lucky? ImageImageImage

WOW! There has got to be a way to stop that from happening. Good thing no one was sitting there!

I cringe every time I run over a stick. My wife and I had one come through the passengers side floor board and tickled my leg (she was driving) . It is pretty scary, but I'm still gonna ride. I took the dogs out today for the first time in a few days, its been cold and REALLY windy here lately, there were sticks in the trail every where, none came in to visit today.

I think I would call Honda corporate and explain to them what happened and E-mail them your pictures. That is a bad deal, glad you were alone.

It's the little square holes catching the sticks it's not the thickness of the plastic it's the design. Is the 2017 made the same.

Yikes!
@joeymt33 bolted some 1/4 uhmw plates to that area.
I have full skid plates but they would not stop that stick. Or other similar punctures I have seen pictures of. Man, someone is gonna hurt!
I'll be doing the joey fix now. But I'm not sure if this stick would have been stopped or just redirected more towards the driver.

You guys should really look into it. I'm scared to death of my little boys or wife taking a stick to the thigh or worse. It's really a cheap mod and I heated the UHMW with a 500watt work light.

If you have any questions, just ask. I'd be glad to help.

One note, I think 1/8" would be fine versus 1/4". It would be easier to handle.

Did you only do the one piece that you are holding there joey? Is it only coming through because of the square hole ribs?

I made 3 panels per side I think.

This small piece on the underside.

This inner piece.

I won't win a fashion award but no one has ever asked me about because they noticed. Here's a shot of it complete.

This is the same side from the under view. It also protects the brake reservoir.

I used screws. This is an inside view. like I said, not going to win "best of show".

I have since went back and painted the floor board so the screws aren't as noticed.

Do you think a 24x24 piece is enough for the same 6 pieces you made?

Are used three 24 x 24 sheets. I may not of been the most efficient in planning out each cut!
