Construction Manager for an ENR top 15 general contractor
My profession as well...what's ENR?
I've been fixin boats, cars, trucks, tractors, since I was big enough to get the drawers open on my Dad's toolbox Now I'm the shop supervisor/lead tech for a Honda, Mercury, Mercruiser sales/service shop in Solomons Md.- I live in California MD. I do alot of my own fabrication- like Illinoisdave said, "why buy it if I can build it"! I'm also part owner of Free Flow MX park & campground in Shannonville Ont. Can. Unfortunately, riding options in my area are pretty limited, but there's some good terrain- if you can find people willing to let you ride on their property. All of my serious rides have been the Hatfield/McCoy trails in WV. Oh ya- I'm 53 going on 19....

Boats.net- nobody gonna beat those prices. Are you sure you actually need an IAC? I've only replaced one of those in 7 years, and that was on a 150. Most common issues causing poor idle and stalling on the 250's (in our area) is 1- valve adjustment- make sure to set them to the loose end of the spec. 2- 250's don't come with Iridium plugs- put iridiums in it. 3- Carbon build up- usually due to wrong prop and/or 'babying it' -always use a decarbonizer additive in fuel with the stabilizer in the correct amount! and a good full throttle run every time you go out for at least a minute. Verify the correct prop- critical (all four stroke outboards) the 250's absolutely need to be able to turn 6000+ rpm at full throttle, with your normal load. With no load, it should/may hit the rev limiter- about 6450rpm. The low end of the range that Honda prints is absolutely wrong. Period. 4- stuck thermostats- change them (in salt water) every two seasons, and water pump in the third season. Failed/stuck thermostats (all four stroke outboards) cause oil dilution due to unburned fuel, water accumulation in oil (condensation) really quick in cool weather/water, and rapid carbon build-up. Hope this is helpful The Honda 250 is a beast! And only a little off topic.....sorryGive me a smoking deal on a IAC valve for a Honda BF250!

Very cool! Ya, if the codes keep coming back after clearing them, then most likely those components actually have an issue- but a very unusual one. I hate it when someone 'second guesses' me, but keep in mind, those codes can be set if you've had low voltage (weak batteries) instances, or the components were unplugged at some point with the ignition on. Unfortunately, if the the throttle position sensor has failed, you have to buy the whole throttle body. And...... I just realized, I have both of those parts (used) sitting on an engine in our shop, that I CAN give you a really good price on- I am a little slow sometimes.... but I eventually come round.... email the shop tomorrow or any time if you want them - [email protected] and I'll get it taken care of for you. Just put 'Honda 250 throttle body' in the subject line. Sorry I didn't think of it sooner.I had the engine scanned and 2 codes came up. IAC current issue and throttle position sensor. I run this thing mostly at 6000 Rpms and love it. It's been bullet proof for 5 years!
