In regards to a tow vehicle, I feel a bit inadequate. The 2018 Ford Super Dutys have 935 ft-lbs torque and my 2017 Super Duty only has 925. Help me Dr. Phil!
Tough life I tell ya!
The specs on my truck are 285hp/6000rpm 276 ft-lbs torque......

I assume you are buying new and not an '09 or '03? I had a 2012 Mega cab dually with a Cummins and the 6 speed auto/non aisin. I never had a problem with it and it pulled a 38 foot 3 axle car trailer with a car,gas powered golf cart, generator, tools, etc. without ever having a problem. It was not deleted and did not require DEF fluid.

Comparing a 2017/18 truck to an '03 is like comparing apples to oranges. The 6.7 Cummins did not come out till '07.

I’m going to trade in my 2015 Z-71 HD 2500 gas burner for either a new 3500 Z-71 Diesel/Allison or a new 3500 Dodge Cumin’s. Any opinions?
Haha any opinions? On which diesel truck is better? Shoot Monte may as well ask if anyone has an opinion on abortion or gun control!

Mine was an 03 my dads is an 09. When I went truck shopping last and searched through the forums people still complaining. The guys who have the new trans are saying it’s bulletproof though. I haven’t shopped in a couple years so maybe it’s changed in the last 2 years.

I think a lot changed in 13 on up. I had a 12 1500 and it wasn't near the truck the 13 was . I searched all the forums before I made my decision and didn't hear much for problems on the new ones.

I have been looking at different options than my old 7.3 but I think since shes payed for I am going to keep it. Anybody got any suggestions on upgrades such as the bigger transmission cooler or a specific chip that would get a little more power?

I worked on Ford diesels from 1987 to 2015.Self employed from 2000 to 2015. I would suggest either a Hypermax or a Superchip style, the type where you download a specific program into your pcm. I think Bully Dog makes a selectable type,5 options on a rotary dial, but we had a lot of trouble with that type. The truck would intermittently die due to the pins loosening up where the programmer plugged into the PCM. Depending on the year model,99 and newer you might use a larger downpipe and a drop in K&N filter. Make sure the integrity of the air box is good, not cracked and both clamps work. Not a thing wrong with K&N filters as long as they are cleaned and reoiled per specs.97 and earlier power strokes were a pain to install the down pipe.

Other than custom tuning, the one I like which really woke up my 2015 Chevy duramax is the Edge products Evolution CTS2.
I was surprised a box tuner could do so much. Although I’m still testing with it, I’m very happy so far!

Keep it till it dies! If you want to go faster just cut your hair. I can't imagine the drag it causes!

I saw that video a couple years ago... 1st this is dumb. 2nd **IF** we agreed to play tug of war and someone did this, be prepared to film an ass whopping afterwards. Either mine when he fights back or his when I beat the crap out of him...

2 would never happen because 1 stops me. DUMB

Let me preface by saying I think at this time ALL the new trucks are good. I'm not die hard on any of the big three, I've seen them all break. That being said, I've always heard it put like this- if you want something more luxurious get a Chevy. If you want something a little that is more of a work horse go with a ford or dodge. This idea is probably a little outdated now and is likely referring to the ifs vs. Solid axle front end. My dad has the Chevy you want and loves it. I drive a 6.7 powerstroke and love it. I've never met someone that owns a dodge that doesn't love it. So I guess my opinion is drive all the ones you're interested in and see what you like

Paid for trucks are the best, yours is much nicer than mine! 1994 ram 1500 318 5 speed manual 2wd 155,000 miles and runs as good as it did when new
Now that you can no longer get a manual trans in a new truck I’ll only be shopping used restored trucks.... if The old ram decides its time... and that won’t be anytime soon

And if money didn’t matter I’d be shopping at this place Legacy Classic Trucks | Home
