Being a smaller machine, what size winch would be a good for the Pioneer 500?
Do you think a 2500 lb would be enough?
Any ideas.

Don't go with anything less than 4000Pds. I have winter tracks (Camoplast T4S) and my 3K winch did not pull me out of the snow I was in. I will have it replaced by a 4 or a 4.5 K depending on what fit in the hole under the bumper. I can't install it on top because of my canoe Rack.
3,000 is sufficient for anything one needs to do. It's a 1,000 pound machine, it wasn't built for towing trucks around and driving the P-5 while pulling with the winch voids warranty and can damage the winch just as securing your machine to a trailer with the winch can cause damage.
I went with the SW Terra 4500. The specs looked identical to the 3500, the gear ratio and a .25 cable being the only difference. For the same weight and $25, I would rather be over-winched than under-winched.Being a smaller machine, what size winch would be a good for the Pioneer 500?

I have a Warn 3000 and it does not have sufficient power to pull my P5 (with winter tracks on) out of the snow. Got stuck a couple of times. Don`t forget that 3000 pds is for a bare roller, as you add layer of cable you lose a lot of power. For each layer of cable on the spool, you lose like 350 pds of force so by the 4th layer, you are down less than 1800 pds.... so 1100 for the P5, about 300 Pds for the tracks plus the what I call suction force, you are way past the capacity of the winch.3,000 is sufficient for anything one needs to do. With tracks on, in the deep snow!! Well, there are exceptions to the rule. The vast majority of us P-5 owners are going to be fine with 3000.I have a Warn 3000 and it does not have sufficient power to pull my P5 (with winter tracks on) out of the snow. This is my experience with the 3000..... A winch is always strong enough until you need it.... You then realise that it is not.... Upgrading mine to a 4500 for sure.
That!I have a 3000 and it seems sufficient. I'll admit I havent used it much but always bring a snatch block to double the strength. I mean if you need 4500lbs for a P500 does that mean you need 9000lbs for a P1000, it is almost double to weight. At some point it becomes overkill and the extra weight and ability to damage the frame comes into play.
