Viper max here for me, use when needed and don't take care like I should but seems good and looks good. The outside coating has not peeled off in four years like my warn did,but the warn still works too.

Got the KFI Stealth 4500 with synthetic rope put on a couple of weeks ago. Had to pull myself out of the mud the first 10 minutes I was on the trail on the first trip. It payed for itself right there. We’ll see how it holds up.

I had the Terra 4500 on my 700-4. Only used a couple times with no problems.
Went with the Viper Max 4500 with 1/4" synthetic rope. I have used it at least 10 times for recovery of myself and other machines. I will say I like the top of bumper mount MUCH better than behind the bumper.

I am looking at the SuperATV 4500. Anyone have experience with that one?

The winch and mounting plate for a cost of $350 seems reasonable especially compared to oem and the instructions seem fairly simple

I ended up buying the Warn 4000 for my 1000-3 last year. I haven't had to use it yet but it's there if needed. I was wondering if the warn 4000 has plenty of power for the 1000 ? I carry a snatch block so I can double the pull strength if needed also. I really need to test mine to see what it will do. I used to test my atv winches by seeing if the winch would hang the atv by a tree limb. lol

It depends how much line is off your spool, but it’s more than adequate without the snatch block.

With an empty spool you’re easily over 3x the weight of your Honda. On the first wrap your prolly around 1500 lbs pull or more (just guessing, refer to your manual).

On flat ground yes but remember, 3x3x3 of wet dirt weights about 3000-4000 lbs so if it’s holding on, a dbl line on a 4500 might not be enough. I was stuck so bad I had my viper 4500 Dbl lined and I was dragging a 1500 Crew and an Explorer Sport. Granted that was on wet dirt but I had to get a mini-ex to get me out.

Mine came with a KFI Stealth 3500 from the dealer. It seems to be good quality and is a sexy winch. I tested it out by pulling the P5 onto my trailer. Seemed to have plenty of oomph but the line speed was really slow.

I've never used a winch on any of my ATVs; always had very aggressive tires and never needed one. Knock on wood...

I used my warn vantage 4000 to lift my p1k3 straight up by a tree branch when I would wash it. I've winched several times in tough spots without issue. I guess I never felt like I was lacking winch power...i think you'll be fine.

Pioneer 500. The winch is the Superwinch Xterra 3500 with space modulator and photon plasma beam erupter . I love it. Not only has it pulled my 500 out of sticky situations but also the Kubota 900 and our small lawn tractor. I have the Synthetic line on mine. Better than steel and safer.

What about the difference between wide spool and short spool? Besides compactness for mounting space - any advantages/ disadvantages choosing one over another?

Is a wide spool better because at same distance you will have gone down less layers on the spool than the short spool.

Also offers more rope capacity, 15’-20’ on a 4500lb winch, usually only a couple of models though and they tend to be spendy.

I just carry two extra 50’ winch line extensions. Gives me 75’ of double line if I NEED it, which I have yet to need to.

Edit: not true I needed about 450’ when I got it sunk pulling a loaded trailer (under 2000lbs) across creek in backyard.

I’ve had three warn winches that have been flawless and used a lot. We found the $180 deal on the super winch terra 45 and it has been problematic. It gets to squealing and making noise and we have to pour the muddy water out of the gearbox and re-grease it and reseal it. At least super winch sends the seal kit for free. If I were to buy another winch today it would be another warn. They are pricey but I sure don’t want to deal with a broken which to add insult to injury while stuck.

Warn has the new Axon 5500 that looks awesome and the new VRX but the Pro Vantage is hard to beat.
