I was accessorizing my new P520 at the dealership yesterday and had to decide on a plow width. 66" vs 60". The 60" plow seems to be fine if you are keeping the stock tires and not putting spacers on the P520. I plan to put 1.5 inch spacers and larger tires on mine. So I will go from 50" wide to maybe up to 56" wide once I make the changes. The KFI blade pivots 25 degrees, and I tend to do most of my plowing with the blade angled. I don't want my tires wider than my plow path.

So I went into my way back machine and tried to do some high school trigonometry. I'm posting my results here in case anyone wants to dispute it, or if someone else finds it useful.

When pivoted 25 degrees... (rounding off to nearest inch)

A 66" wide plow cuts a 60" path.

A 60" wide plow cuts a 54" path.

Any math geeks out there want to confirm or dispute?

I ordered the 66" plow.

Try not to do math unless I'm getting paid to but off the cuff, 66" is the way to go. Been plowing with mine for 5 yrs and have never had a problem pushing a full blade. Hell, I've had it coming over the top. Read in another thread you went with the KFI, good choice, you won't be disappointed.

I don’t do the whole math thing. But go 66 or even a little bigger.

You lose a lot of width when angled.

I’ll give you a virtual pat on the back from someone who has been plowing commercially for over 12 years, if you are doing most of it angled, you are doing it right. 👊

72" plow tilted 25* cuts a path 65.25" wide
66" plow tilted 25* cuts a path 59.81" wide
60" plow tilted 25* cuts a path 54.38" wide

Math checks out.

Although I went with a 60", (because of where I park), I think the 66" is the best choice. When I had my 27" tires on I was 54" wide so with the blade angled I was ok, but I've gone back to the stock wheels and tires for the winter so all is good.

Thanks. My 10th grade trig teacher would be proud.
