Good Morning,

I purchased a project Pioneer 500 yesterday and trying to work through some gremlins. The biggest issue is it will not go over 18-19 mph. I am not seeing any codes.

I tried to locate the seat belt safety wire, however I am not seeing it. I rode with and without a seatbelt with no difference. I am not sure if the PO cut or it never had one.

Perhaps it's something else wrong.

The '15 doesn't have a seatbelt safety switch, that didn't start until '17 I believe.....my '16 doesn't have one

Why are you in 5th gear at 19mph? It should do well over that in 3rd, how does it do in the lower gears? Does it cut out at the same RPM range in every gear?

It won't go over 19 in any gear regardless of RPM

Wondering if the exhaust catalytic canister and/or the muffler spark arrester is plugged? Machine may have been stalled in really muddy water that washed in to exhaust system is what I’m wondering.
I guess I could try the blow out method. My only initial thought, if it was plug, it would be more sensitive to RPM versus speed.

So it will go 19mph in 3rd or 4th? Does it rev up without missing/cutting out?

start with the basics if you haven't already..... clean the air filter, new spark plug, fresh gas, etc. Sometimes its easy to overlook the simple things

It rev's perfectly. Speed seems to be the limiter. 3rd,4th,5th all top out at 19mph.

Kind of reminds of the old Grizzly's when you had front diff locked.

As a test you could unplug the speed sensor, start it up and get it in 3rd gear and see if it will go faster, might need to use a GPS to measure speed. These rigs don't have a speed limiter, they will limit RPM in 5th to a max of 42mph...ish.

Beware, the machine will get a fault and you will get the "-" on the dash gear indicator but they won't cut out. To clear simply turn off then back on after you've reconnected the speed sensor

Tried this... interesting results...

I disconnected the SS and manually shifted into 4th gear. Speedometer stop working obviously but it felt like it went to 30mph, then fell on its face and started the 19mph rev limiter again.

Almost makes me think the PO swapped a 2017+ ECU on here.

Pretty easy to check the part #.....if your ecu still has the part # on it.
