Best ive found is the Factory UTV skids for about $650 shipped. Thats for 3/8". Anyone know of anything better? Trail Armor is being considered but they seem more expensive. I also like have less holes on the Factory UTV and the middle section being 1 sheet

I just finished putting the factory utv 3/8 skid plate on my pioneer 1000 P3
it was easy to put on and like you said the price on the factory utv skid was the biggest factor plus i used the money I saved and got some more stuff and the factory utv skid is just 3 pieces to put on

I would go with 1/2" if going with UHMW!! Especially if you go with a jointed plate

Why would you go with the 1/2 inch skid plate instead of the 3/8. The 3/8 is pretty thick and it just has 2 joints to put together the main skid is one solid piece unlike the 1/2 inch which has 5 pieces to join together

A lot of it depends on the terrain you plan on riding in. Big rock is going to flex that 3/8 A lot
..possibly get into oil pan..diff..ect. 1/2 is much stiffer less chance of damage.

I think 3/8" is more than thick enough. I like the center single piece of the factory UTV, I made my skid similar to theirs. The big thing is having enough fasteners. If the span between fasteners is 12-16" you wont see much for flex in the skid plate. I've used mine as a jack point with no issue picking 2 or more tires off the ground. I've also hammered it on rocks with minimal damage. Certainly damage that would have been much worse with aluminum and not likely avoided with another 1/8" of material.

600 miles since January and I'm really happy. They are awesome in the snow. You can basically get buried climbing snow banks and the pioneer turns into a sled and slides off ice and snow obstacles. Last weekend I hammered rock climbs and had all 4 tires off the ground several times and rocked the machine on the skids alone. Hardly a mark on them.

The holes are needed for exhaust heat ventilation. It's nice without them in the winter because it holds the heat in but the machine needs the air flow in the summer.

I dont ride a ton of rocky areas except when i go to WV. and since money is tight when it comes to accessorizing, im most likely sticking with the 3/8. Trying to find the best deal. Factory UTV is about 650 shipped and trail armor was almost 850 shipped.
