Hey all!,
I've read the heat thread. The heat doesn't bother me much.
I am more interested in cutting down cab noise. Has anyone done anything that has really made a big difference? I read some of the heat stuff has helped, but is it a bunch?

I don't remember what you have on the rear deck, but the open rack rear deck is considerably noisier than it is when your deck it solid.

Right, but is it just attatched to the Honda frame, or did you install some form of solid decking, ie., plastic, rubber, plywood or diamond plate, etc, on top of the Honda frame?

Speak up, I can't hear you. Actually heat insulation under does help a little. I put it under mine, it also does a great job of cutting down the heat.

It is mostly the engine noise that bothers me. When I had the box all the way to front it was worse. I reckon I will try that stuff under seat

Correct, engine noise is what I thought we were talking about. A solid deck on the back is quieter than just the OEM rack, and yes, under seat insulation will help as well.

You are talking about a solid section, of say plywood, from as far forward as you can to the rear?

Decided I'm going to do it. Keeping the heat down will be a huge improvement.
I don't think this qualifies as an expensive mod, monte?
The bigger benefit will be the reduction of engine noise...
now I'll be able to hear the stereo! ;)

Hambone, I purchased a larger piece of insulation from Amazon and rolled it out continuously from under seat all the way to the rear under the rack. Trimmed around the edges and zip tied it down. It seemed to cut down on engine and transmission noise quite a bit. It was the first thing I noticed. Also no steam coming up in between seats and around your back any more when you drive through water. Money and time well spent. I don't know how to search and lead you to the thread, but maybe you can find it. I posted pictures of the entire process. Some others on here have done the same with pictures and info on the products we have use. Good luck with it. I think you will be happy with the mod.

Nope, that's not an expensive mod at all. A little time consuming is all. You should go for it, you have my full support. ;)

Hambone, if you haven't already go for a ride in a Yamaha..... On our machines at least you can speak and hear the other person. Helped a bit with a rear cab and I also put a soft (OTR tarp material) custom divider between the seat back and cab. I think waterproof sound deadening from under the floor at base of seat to back of cab would help huge, just gotta sort type of material.

Hey trigger, if it's not too much trouble, would you mind taking pics of your install process?
