After my recent hunting trip, I washed p500 and examined all around and found two things, my front aluminum products boot guards rubbed against plastic protector for brake lines , but it looked minimal , some grinding off and it will be fixed, BUT :(, my rear right CV boot looked like it was sucked from inside, not torn , but collapsed, dont know if ice build up or something after snow riding happened.

Please take a look and advice if you would replace it or try some how to inflate it :).

If replace then : what boot would you recommend, honda or aftermarket ?

It probably got hit by something. Mine looked very similar after a stick hit it.

My buddy had a 3" log go thru his floor board on a P700 this past weekend. Never know what will happen. I've had several sticks get close to harming the boot like this....

Verdict? Needs to be replaced, even its not punctured but twisted?

The one in the picture did not need to be replaced. It was just rubbed.

This one needed to be replaced...it's a thread I did on the replacement.

CV repair and boot replacement.

If the boot is not torn, or opening the joint to weather, why replace it? All they do is insure the grease stays on the inside and the water/dirt stays on the outside... I guess a more interesting question, is how did it get like that? Stick that was only jamming in one end causing it to twist up? If you could untwist it I would think it would be fine (assuming no holes)

I thought about it too, just was not sure how to do it, but watched few DIY youtube videos and will try to loosen clamps, examine and reshape it.

I think it was ice build up, after riding in snow all boots were packed with snow and next morning it looked like ice block , and made crack noise when I started to drive. I do not recall driving over sticks, only trails and open fields, just ice and snow. Just my guess.

I have the same aluminum guards on mine and noticed that they were also holding snow. Wonder if there is a way to carve some of that guard out so the snow doesn't pack in there as much? When I noticed this I dug out the snow before I let it sit and turn to ice but it was a PITA.

Remove boot, examine for cuts, tears, punctures; if so, replace; if not, try to manipulate it back into shape and reinstall.

Got back from skiing trip. Did not want just go to bed and rest, but decided to start at least something

Took axle out, but could not take clamps from cv joint , its so easy on youtube videos, may be a squeeze clamp wrong way or direction????

I showed with arrow where I applied force but nothing has happened :(

I had to cut the clamps when I changed a boot.

I wasn't trying to save the boot though.

I'm afraid I had to cut them too, don't see the way to open them and re use. The boot has micro punctures , its going into trash.

I used this since I had it around the house.

I'm no expert at these things so I will have to defer to others for their advice. I would recommend using a powerful tool called YouTube.

Wow, that seems like a great idea. Looks like a Pex tool.

so far I just field dressed the rubber part and all grease inside looked intact no, dirt or water, seems like one small hole did not let anything in. But to disassemble the joint , I had to wipe some grease off. It smells good :), not sure what smell pink grease has in the kit.
